Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent education, such as a GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post-secondary education, preferred.
  • One year of experience preferred.
  • Required DOTHAZMAT Certification from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English to perform essential functions affecting patient or employee safety or security.
  • Ability to access information within the department and hospital system as appropriate.
  • Ability to complete work within designated time frames.
  • Ability to perform duties accurately and efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to use housekeeping equipment and chemicals safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, family members, coworkers, staff, and visitors in a customer-service-focused manner.
Responsibilities
  • Perform general and moderately complex cleaning tasks in assigned specialty areas to provide a safe and attractive environment for patients, guests, and staff.
  • Maintain environmental and infection-control standards according to established policies and procedures.
  • Follow Association of periOperative Registered Nurses standards for turnover and terminal cleaning of procedure rooms.
  • Operate floor-maintenance equipment and handle chemicals and hazardous materials for appropriate disposal.
  • Set up conference rooms and distribute, collect, and track linens as appropriate.
  • Respond promptly and positively to requests for assistance with directions and information from patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Respond to assignments to create an environment conducive to healing and communicate and document facility or patient-related issues to management as appropriate.
  • Perform efficient room-cleaning processes to support timely patient admissions.
  • Follow department processes for room cleaning and discharge inspections.
  • Achieve discharge, daily room-cleaning, and assigned-area turnaround times.
  • Track, log, and notify management of equipment safety and repair needs during discharge activity.
  • Follow policies, procedures, safety rules, standard infection-control precautions, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards.
  • Follow proper cleaning and maintenance procedures for all floor types using appropriate equipment.
  • Collect, transport, and dispose of solid and biohazard waste through proper procedures.
  • Follow identified cleaning procedures using specialty equipment in assigned surgical, procedural, or isolation areas.
  • Use appropriate techniques to transport clean or soiled linen and support quality assurance by examining, identifying, and rejecting poor-quality linen.
  • Use and store chemicals, paper goods, supplies, and equipment appropriately during each shift.
  • Report, track, and assess wasteful practices.
  • Manage time effectively and prioritize daily department tasks to minimize incidental overtime.
  • Participate in continuing education, in-service programs, shared governance, meetings, and huddles.
  • Contribute ideas to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of department processes.
  • Engage coworkers in learning opportunities aligned with business objectives.
