GE Appliances to invest $1B in Louisville appliance manufacturing plant.

GE Appliances to invest $1B in Louisville appliance manufacturing plant. On Sep 5, 2026 GE Appliances, a Haier company, and the union IUE-CWA announced a $1 billion investment by the industrial group in Appliance Park in Louisville, Kentucky. GE Appliances says the company plans to expand high-output production of laundry products, and reinforce its long-term commitment to manufacturing in Kentucky and the U.S. GE Appliances says the expansion will make Appliance Park America's largest home appliance manufacturing site, manufacturing dishwashers, dryers, frontload washers and combo washer-dryers. "Investment in American manufacturing is critical to our economy and our communities," said IUE-CWA President Carl Kennebrew. "Our Union members are proud to manufacture American-made [product from] GE Appliances in Louisville, and this new investment will ensure that our members keep delivering these high-quality products to American consumers for years to come." "Bringing our laundry and dishwasher manufacturing together gives us a real competitive advantage, with new synergies across our cleaning products and closer connections between the people who design, engineer, and build them," said Kevin Nolan, president and CEO of GE Appliances.

GE Appliances pours $1B into Louisville campus.

GE Appliances pours $1B into Louisville campus. The 6 million-square-foot global headquarters and production hub is set to become the largest home-appliance manufacturing site in the U.S. GE Appliances is investing $1 billion into the expansion and upgrade of GE Appliance Park, its manufacturing campus and global headquarters in Louisville, Ky. The Haier-owned company is set to expand its production across three facilities at the campus. Through this commitment, GE Appliance Park will become the largest home-appliance assembly plant in the U.S. based on fabrication output, employees and campus footprint. The investment program is being carried out in a partnership with IUE-CWA, the union representing employees within the campus. The largest portion of GE Appliances' investment - more than $400 million - will go toward the transformation of Building 5 into a high-output dryer manufacturing facility. As part of its broader manufacturing reshoring push, the company plans to relocate production from Mexico to Louisville, with operations expected to start in late 2027. The modernization of Building 5 is expected to take between nine and 12 months. Refrigeration assembly at this property is set to end early next year as part of the transformation. GE Appliances will continue its refrigeration manufacturing at its other plants in Decatur, Ala., and Selmer, Tenn. The firm is also investing roughly $112 million in Building 1, a facility dedicated to top-load washers and front-load dryers. Here, GE Appliances will add new equipment and redesign existing production lines. The manufacturer is also directing $490 million toward Building 2, an investment previously announced in 2025. Plans call for the transformation of this property into an advanced laundry fabrication building with robotics and automated material-handling systems. Operations at the upgraded Building 2 are expected to start in 2027. GE's historic campus enters new chapter. GE Appliance Park is a 750-acre campus in south Louisville, encompassing more than 6 million square feet across five facilities. In 1950, General Electric purchased more than 900 acres of farmland for its future campus, with construction commencing at Building 1 in 1951 and official operations starting in 1953. In addition to production lines for washers, dryers, refrigerators and dishwashers, the complex houses GE Appliances' corporate offices as well as engineering, distribution and warehouse operations. The main campus address is 4000 Buechel Bank Road. It is close to interstates 65 and 264, providing regional connections through the Louisville metro area and to the Midwest and Southeast markets. The city's international airport and the UPS Worldport air-cargo hub are both 7 miles away. Once the investment program is completed, GE Appliance Park is expected to support 4,700 jobs, while employees will have opportunities to move into new positions as production ramps up next year. The repositioning of Building 2 is also expected to create 800 full-time jobs. The investment builds on GE Appliances' continued expansion in the country. Since 2016, the company has committed $6.5 billion across the U.S., including more than $3.5 billion already invested in its national operations and another $3 billion planned for the next five years. Legacy plants and new manufacturers drive Louisville investment. The news comes as Louisville is seeing continued investment and interest across some of its longstanding campuses. In August, Ford unveiled plans for a nearly $2 billion investment in transforming its Louisville Assembly Plant into a next-generation EV manufacturing location. The automaker is revamping the 70-year-old plant with new systems, with the first vehicle expected to enter production next year. New industrial construction is also underway. Anthro Energy recently broke ground on its first facility in the metro, a $40 million battery-materials plant expected to create 110 full-time jobs and support 390 construction-related positions. The project, also the company's first in Kentucky, will produce advanced electrolytes for batteries used in automotive, consumer and defense applications.

GE Appliances announces $1 billion manufacturing investment in Louisville.

GE Appliances announces $1 billion manufacturing investment in Louisville. GE Appliances is investing $1 billion to expand and reorganise production at its Appliance Park manufacturing complex in Louisville, Kentucky, in a major push to increase domestic appliance production and bring dryer manufacturing back from Mexico. The investment will transform three buildings at the site and is expected to reinforce Appliance Park's position as one of the largest home appliance manufacturing facilities in the US by production output, employment and footprint. More than $400 million will be invested in Building 5, which will be converted from refrigerator production to a high-output dryer manufacturing facility. Refrigerator production is scheduled to end in early 2027, with dryer production expected to begin later that year. The move represents a significant reshoring initiative, bringing high-volume dryer production from Mexico back to the United States. GE Appliances says employees will remain on the payroll during the nine-to-12-month conversion, with no layoffs planned as part of the transition. A further $112 million will be invested in Building 1 to install new equipment and redesign existing washer and dryer manufacturing platforms. The latest investment also incorporates a previously announced $490 million project in Building 2, where GE Appliances will begin producing front-load washing machines and washer-dryer combination products from 2027. The facility is being developed as a highly automated manufacturing operation incorporating robotics, automated guided vehicles and autonomous mobile robots. Focus on laundry manufacturing The investment will consolidate GE Appliances' laundry and dishwasher manufacturing operations at Appliance Park, bringing product design, engineering and manufacturing activities closer together. GE Appliances President and CEO Kevin Nolan said the move would create greater synergies across the company's cleaning products and strengthen connections between the teams responsible for designing, engineering and manufacturing appliances. Once the transformation is complete, the company expects the investment to help secure approximately 4,700 production jobs at Appliance Park, with new and expanded manufacturing roles becoming available as production ramps up during 2027. Part of wider US manufacturing strategy The Louisville investment forms part of a broader $3 billion US manufacturing initiative announced by GE Appliances in 2025. The company says it has committed $6.5 billion to US manufacturing since 2016, including more than $3.5 billion already invested in domestic operations. GE Appliances was acquired by Haier in 2016, but has continued to invest heavily in its US manufacturing footprint. The latest announcement highlights the growing importance of reshoring and domestic production capacity within the global appliance industry. For manufacturers facing supply-chain pressures, tariffs and increasing demand for regional production, the Louisville expansion represents another example of major appliance production being brought closer to the end market.

GE Appliances announces $1 Billion Louisville investment, will move dryer production from Mexico to Kentucky.

GE Appliances announces $1 Billion Louisville investment, will move dryer production from Mexico to Kentucky. September 2, 2026 Major transformation of Appliance Park will create what the company calls the largest home appliance manufacturing site in the U.S. and help secure 4,700 production jobs. LOUISVILLE, Ky. - GE Appliances is making a massive new commitment to Kentucky manufacturing, announcing a $1 billion transformation of its Louisville operations that will bring dryer production from Mexico to Kentucky and position Appliance Park as the largest home appliance manufacturing site in the United States. GE Appliances, a Haier company, and the IUE-CWA announced the investment Wednesday, saying the project will expand and modernize production across Buildings 1, 2 and 5 at the company's sprawling Louisville headquarters. The centerpiece is an investment of more than $400 million to transform Building 5 into a high-output dryer manufacturing operation. Production of the dryers will move from Mexico to Louisville, representing a significant reshoring of manufacturing operations to Kentucky. The company also plans to invest approximately $112 million in Building 1 for new equipment and redesigned washer and dryer platforms. Those projects join GE Appliances' previously announced $490 million investment in Building 2, where the company plans to manufacture front-load washers and combination washer-dryers beginning in 2027. Combined, the investments total approximately $1 billion. Once the transformation is complete, GE Appliances says Appliance Park will be America's largest home appliance manufacturing site based on production output, employment and campus footprint. The investment also is expected to help secure approximately 4,700 production jobs at the Louisville complex. "We're making major investments to continue modernizing Appliance Park and bring more production to our global headquarters in Louisville," said Kevin Nolan, president and CEO of GE Appliances. "Bringing our laundry and dishwasher manufacturing together gives us a real competitive advantage, with new synergies across our cleaning products and closer connections between the people who design, engineer, and build them," Nolan said. "That combination allows us to move faster, accelerate innovation and continue strengthening our industry-leading U.S. manufacturing business." The decision to shift dryer manufacturing from Mexico to Louisville is one of the most significant components of the project. GE Appliances plans to convert Building 5 from refrigeration production into a high-output dryer manufacturing operation. Refrigerator production there is expected to conclude in early 2027, followed by an approximately nine- to 12-month transformation of the facility. New dryer production is scheduled to begin in late 2027. GE Appliances said employees will remain on the payroll throughout the transition, with no layoffs associated with the Building 5 retooling. Employees also will have opportunities to move into new and expanded manufacturing positions as production ramps up throughout Appliance Park in 2027. "Investment in American manufacturing is critical to our economy and our communities," said IUE-CWA President Carl Kennebrew. "Our union members are proud to manufacture American-made GE appliances in Louisville, and this new investment will ensure that our members keep delivering these high-quality products to American consumers for years to come." GE Appliances will continue producing millions of refrigerators annually in the United States at its Decatur, Alabama, plant, which the company describes as the country's largest refrigeration manufacturing operation, as well as in Selmer, Tennessee. The latest announcement represents a broad restructuring and expansion of GE Appliances' Louisville manufacturing footprint. More than $400 million will go toward Building 5, approximately $112 million will be invested in Building 1 and the previously announced $490 million will transform Building 2 for front-load washer and combination washer-dryer production. The investments will concentrate more of the company's laundry and cleaning-product manufacturing at its Louisville headquarters, creating closer connections among manufacturing, engineering, design and product-development operations. The $1 billion commitment further strengthens Appliance Park's role in Kentucky's manufacturing economy and Louisville's position as GE Appliances' global headquarters. The company employs approximately 15,500 people nationwide. GE Appliances says its operations support another 98,000 American jobs. Since 2016, the company has committed $6.5 billion to U.S. manufacturing, including more than $3.5 billion already invested in its domestic operations and another $3 billion announced in 2025 for investments over the following five years. GE Appliances manufactures and sells products under the Monogram, Café, GE Profile, GE, Haier and Hotpoint brands. For Kentucky, the latest investment is significant not only because of its size, but because it brings additional manufacturing production into the commonwealth while reinforcing the future of one of Louisville's largest manufacturing operations. Once the projects are completed, Appliance Park will have an expanded role in GE Appliances' U.S. production strategy, with laundry and dishwasher manufacturing concentrated at the company's Kentucky headquarters and approximately 4,700 production jobs supported by the investment.
