Requirements
  • Knowledge of early childhood education, child development, and anti-bias education.
  • Knowledge of local educational and community resources and how they can be used in the classroom.
  • Knowledge of bilingual language acquisition.
  • A Lead Teacher must have a high school diploma or GED, 12 units in Early Childhood Education including required core units, three units of infant/toddler coursework, and one year of experience with children ages 0–3 in a childcare setting.
  • A Lead Teacher I must have an associate degree emphasizing Early Childhood Education or Child Development, at least 24 units in Early Childhood Education including required core units, three units of infant/toddler coursework, and one year of experience with children ages 0–3 in a childcare setting.
  • A Lead Teacher II must have a bachelor's degree emphasizing Early Childhood Education or Child Development, at least 24 units in Early Childhood Education or Child Development including required core units, three units of infant/toddler coursework, one year of experience with children ages 0–3 in a childcare setting, and completed supervised student teaching or experience teaching preschool-age children.
  • Lead Teacher, Lead Teacher I, and Lead Teacher II employees must maintain a State of California Child Development Associate Level Permit or Child Development Associate credential.
  • Valid CPR, First Aid, and Food Handlers certifications must be obtained within the first two months of employment and maintained throughout employment.
  • The employee must complete a physical examination, obtain TB clearance and a drug screen, and provide required influenza, pertussis, and measles immunization records before the first day of employment.
  • The employee must obtain current criminal background clearance, sign a criminal record statement, and sign an Acknowledgement to Report Child Abuse form before the first day of employment.
  • The employee must maintain a valid California driver's license, use a personal insured vehicle daily, and maintain a motor vehicle record acceptable to MAAC's insurance carrier.
Responsibilities
  • Provide respectful individualized primary care for assigned infants and toddlers, including feeding, diapering, and holding.
  • Assist with assigning children to primary care groups and planning individualized transitions into care.
  • Partner with parents through daily communication, scheduled home visits, and parent conferences to provide consistent and culturally sensitive care.
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate individual and small-group indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Set up, tear down, and clean indoor and outdoor play spaces.
  • Maintain classroom and outdoor play areas for cleanliness and safety, including sanitizing toys and equipment and assisting with laundry.
  • Maintain clean and sanitized eating, diapering, and napping areas and equipment.
  • Prepare and serve meals and snacks according to individual feeding plans.
  • Document care and developmental activities accurately on individual daily records and other child recordkeeping documents.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and meal counts.
  • Lift, carry, and hold children weighing 25–50 pounds.
  • Schedule and complete home visits at times convenient to parents, develop Individual Child Plans and Family Development Plans for each child and family at Phase In, and update the plans at least three times during the school year.
  • Attend mandated trainings, programs, conferences, and meetings.
  • Assist with personalized services for children with special needs using specialized training and equipment as needed.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Head Start policies and procedures.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish speaking, reading, and writing ability.
