Requirements
  • A completed or near-complete Bachelor's degree in political science, sociology, urban studies, public policy, or a related field from Loyola Marymount University.
  • Demonstrated interest in pursuing graduate study in a doctoral, professional, or related program.
  • Strong interest in social science research, public opinion, or community-based research.
  • Basic familiarity with research methods and data analysis, with coursework acceptable.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.
  • A proactive, flexible, and adaptable working style with the ability to anticipate needs and implement a course of action.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including writing, grammar, proofreading, and punctuation.
  • Ability to perform duties with speed and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, office equipment, and Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently and productively with team members and people at varying levels of seniority within and outside Loyola Marymount University.
Responsibilities
  • Support the Center for the Study of Los Angeles in its mission to assist students, staff, and faculty in becoming agents for social justice.
  • Support senior leadership in planning, programming, and executing research projects and associated activities, meetings, and events.
  • Gather and organize project-related information and assist with project-related data and information collection, management, and reporting.
  • Assist with basic quantitative and qualitative data analysis under the guidance of senior researchers.
  • Contribute to research reports, presentations, and written materials.
  • Expand relationships within the university, the Los Angeles community, other academic communities, and relevant individuals and organizations.
  • Increase awareness of Center for the Study of Los Angeles research and help increase use of its data by professionals and students.
  • Represent the Center for the Study of Los Angeles at professional activities and meetings inside and outside the university.
  • Manage multiple assignments with guidance and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Work respectfully with people from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Participate in regular mentorship meetings with faculty and research staff.
  • Engage actively in research projects and skill development activities.
  • Apply to graduate or professional programs during the fellowship year.
  • Participate in service activities aligned with Loyola Marymount University's mission.
