Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Three or more years of experience in a manufacturing or job shop environment is preferred.
  • Ability to calculate proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume and apply basic geometry concepts.
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Computer skills using the Windows operating system.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; and present information effectively in one-on-one and small-group situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems involving varied concrete conditions with limited standardization and interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule-based instructions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, carry up to 50 pounds, push and pull, climb, use stairs, and crouch.
  • Ability to communicate through speaking and hearing.
  • Ability to work scheduled shifts, arrive on time, remain at the workstation at the start of the shift, and work mandatory overtime when necessary.
Responsibilities
  • Identify the types and sizes of steel needed for each job, primarily hot-rolled steel and cold-rolled steel.
  • Interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, work orders, and sample parts to determine finished-part dimensions and tolerances, operation sequences, and setup requirements.
  • Set up and operate conventional manual turning machines to turn, bore, thread, and face metal materials.
  • Work from drawings and written instructions to create customer-specific equipment parts with precision and close tolerances.
  • Use a tape measure, 12-inch scale, micrometers, calipers, and other Imperial and Metric measuring devices.
  • Inspect finished parts and record the results.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds for machining operations.

  • Technical school certificate.
