Requirements
  • 6+ years of Senior engineering Management experience (VP level or above of 100+ engineering team / comparable size company)
  • Understand the principles of agile software development & experience working that way
  • Exhibiting leadership through influence, collaboration, and communication
  • Led motivated engineering teams at ventures that have gone through scale and hyper-growth (doubling in size every 12 months or faster)
  • Is a great partner to Product Management, Product Design & User Experience, Science, R&D, and customer-facing teams (Sales, Customer Success, Account Management)
  • Lives and breaths data (data pipelines, data models, data extraction, data processing) and has a proven track record using cloud architectures and services to build commercially successful data-heavy, B2B offerings
  • Will directly manage: VP of Engineering - Data, ML and Bioinformatics, Senior Director of Engineering - Web Applications & Platform Delivery, Director of Engineering Core services (Infrastructure, Security, SRE, Software Quality, Search), and Principal engineers
Responsibilities
  • Be the internal technology promoter, representing engineering on the senior leadership team, and taking an active part in strategic decision-making
  • Be an external thought leader, take part in customer-facing engagements, investment due diligence, and in attracting top engineering talent
  • Manage execution and delivery of all technical goals
  • Manage the engineering team, help grow it from 100 engineers to 200+ in the next 6-12 months by taking a leading role in recruiting and retaining top talent
  • Create alignment across engineering, and lead urgency and importance of high-value problems following our roadmap
  • Manage engineering headcount, deliverables, goals, timelines, and budget
  • Ensure we continue to strike the right balance between speed and quality by further refining product development alongside the Chief Platform Officer, Chief Science Officer, Chief Architect, and SVP Science & Product and managing the processes governing software delivery
  • Take part in technical design meetings, collaborate with engineering leadership on setting the technical direction
  • Develop a distinctive engineering culture as part of the broader platform stream
  • Develop the engineering tech radar to inform strategic decision-making on future and current technologies to invest in
  • Commit to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the engineering division of BenchSci
