Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited school for radiologic technologists.
  • ARRT registration is required.
  • IEMA certification is required.
  • Basic Life Support cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification is required.
  • Potential exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, and body fluids is part of the working conditions.
  • Ability to occasionally assist with transferring patients weighing more than 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand motions, walking, standing, and reaching above the head.
Responsibilities
  • Administer x-rays, operate imaging equipment, prepare exam rooms and supplies, and provide quality patient care using available imaging modalities.
  • Provide patient care, assist the Radiologist with special exams, and produce images suitable for interpretation.
  • Transfer patients, maintain basic quality assurance functions, and recall images from a Picture Archiving and Communication System.
  • Verify that the physician-ordered exam matches the requisition received by the department.
  • Use independent judgment to ensure the exam clinically evaluates the stated diagnosis.
  • Prepare rooms, equipment, medicine, and materials for diagnostic procedures.
  • Perform imaging procedures for patients of all age groups, including mentally and physically handicapped, traumatically injured, and oncology patients.
  • Maintain rooms and equipment in a clean and disinfected state.
  • Prepare barium and other chemical mixtures for x-ray procedures.
  • Prepare patients for exams by explaining procedures, transferring them to the exam table, positioning them, and assisting them during procedures.
  • Administer general and specific x-rays using prescribed techniques, including adjusting equipment, determining voltage, current, and exposure time, positioning patients with immobilization and support devices, and adjusting lead shields.
  • Follow ALARA and Image Gently National Campaign guidelines.
  • Observe patients and equipment during procedures, report unusual occurrences, and record patient conditions when necessary.
  • Maintain stock supplies and perform general clerical duties when necessary.
  • Perform mobile x-rays at patients' bedsides, in the emergency room, and in the operating room.
  • Participate in quality assessment and quality improvement programs.
  • Transport patients when necessary and follow hospital and departmental policies and procedures, including infection control, hand hygiene, attendance, and appearance requirements.
  • Maintain continuing education credits in compliance with the licensing agency.
  • Support the organization's mission, vision, and values.
  • Perform other related work as required or requested.
Desired Qualifications
  • An associate degree is preferred.
  • Prior computer experience is preferred.
