Requirements
  • A minimum of 6 months to 1 year of clerical experience in a medical setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • A fully qualified computer typist with a minimum speed of 50 words per minute.
  • Knowledge of general medical ethics, telephone etiquette, communication, and customer service.
  • English-language proficiency, including correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and formatting for written correspondence, reports, and transcribed material.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • General office administrative and clerical skills for receptionist duties and telephone answering.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, including computers, typewriters, copiers, fax machines, telephone systems, and office automation systems for medical-record maintenance support.
  • General knowledge of Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations standards.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross; online classes are not accepted.
  • Ability to pass a government-required security investigation and return required documentation promptly.
  • Ability to obtain required physical-testing or physical-examination documentation and meet tuberculosis-screening and health-documentation requirements, including immunizations, annual vaccinations, physical examination, and pre-employment drug screening.
Responsibilities
  • Greet patients and visitors at the clinic front desk.
  • Check patients in for patient encounters.
  • Answer the main office telephone line.
  • Schedule, reschedule, and cancel medical appointments, including consult and specialty-care referral appointments.
  • Determine patient eligibility for services as needed.
  • Use multiple office automation software applications to produce a wide range of documents and provide miscellaneous clerical support.
  • Perform administrative and clerical duties supporting medical care and operational operations.
  • Maintain medical records using standard office equipment and office automation systems.
  • Complete end-of-day closing processes and resolve delinquent or pending appointments in the computer system.
