Requirements
  • The position requires a master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Counseling, Counseling Psychology, or a related field.
  • Mental Health Counselor I requires an Arizona Licensed Associate Counselor license.
  • Mental Health Counselor II requires an Arizona Licensed Professional Counselor license and independent licensure without a need for clinical supervision hours.
  • Experience in assessment, diagnosis, and implementation of interventions for depression, anxiety, alcohol or drug use or abuse, and developmental concerns commonly faced by college students is required.
  • The counselor must understand the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition and be familiar with the Beck Depression Inventory, Beck Anxiety Inventory, Dissociative Experiences Scale-II, Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test, and ADHD Amen checklist.
  • The counselor must be able to create and modify PowerPoint presentations for the campus community.
  • The counselor must be computer literate, able to work independently, and able to work under direction.
  • The counselor must be able to handle increased stress levels and multitask.
  • The counselor must be able to work closely with Counseling Center staff and demonstrate flexibility.
  • The counselor must maintain active liability insurance.
  • The counselor must be willing to attend professional conferences and training sessions required for licensing.
Responsibilities
  • Provide individual, couples, and group counseling using a brief treatment framework.
  • Provide crisis intervention.
  • Conduct appropriate assessments, provide feedback on assessments, and make referrals for students whose needs exceed the scope of Counseling Services.
  • Consult with Wellness Center providers regarding student needs.
  • Provide consultation services to concerned faculty, students, and staff.
  • Provide counseling to students mandated to attend for sanctions associated with University drug and alcohol policy infractions.
  • Collaborate with Counseling Center staff and meet weekly with the Counseling Director.
  • Provide public presentations and wellness education and outreach to students and staff when required.
  • Provide after-hours availability based on need when required.
  • For Mental Health Counselor II, act as Director of Counseling Services during the Director's absence or when requested.
  • For Mental Health Counselor II, provide supervision to Licensed Associate Counselor counselors when needed.
  • For Mental Health Counselor II, serve as a point of contact for the campus community and departments.
  • For Mental Health Counselor II, attend weekly Dean of Students and Behavioral Intervention meetings and provide input.
  • For Mental Health Counselor II, maintain overall operations needs of the Counseling Department.
  • Interact with counseling staff and provide professional insights, specifically to staff with junior licenses.
  • Work with local psychologists and other providers for evaluations as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working in a university counseling center is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience working with different facets of a college campus community is preferred.
  • Experience providing services to a diverse population of students is preferred.
  • Some experience with college counseling programming is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience working with adults in an outpatient setting is preferred.
  • Completed training to provide clinical supervision and registration on the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners site as a clinical supervisor is a plus.
