Requirements
  • BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution;
  • Minimum 4 years relevant experience;
  • Engineering-in-Training required, or minimum 8+ years’ experience as highway designer working on Federal/State DOT projects;
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Licensure preferred;
  • Knowledge of civil engineering design and construction surveying concepts required;
  • Experience performing design for roadway transportation projects required, including cost estimating, specifications and highway plans for construction bid packages;
  • Experience with State and Federal transportation design standards required; Pennsylvania design procedures and standards a plus;
  • Experience with Microstation and InRoads required; latest version of Power Inroads SS4, Connect Edition or Open Roads a plus;
  • Prior work experience with Municipal and State DOTs preferred, prior work with PennDOT and/or the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission design projects a plus;
  • Experience in the following a plus: Advanced intersection and roadway corridor modeling; AutoCad and/or Civil3D; GIS applications such as ArcGIS or Google Earth; SignCAD, AutoTurn, PennDOT AutoTAB Web, and/or ASTA project scheduling;
  • Experience with MS Office products including Word and Excel;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; and
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, project managers, supervisors, and other team members.
Responsibilities
  • Support a variety of projects which may involve collection of data, existing condition and alternative analysis evaluation for engineering reports, development of horizontal and vertical alignments, performing cross section and superelevation design, roadside barrier design, ADA curb ramp design, roadway modeling, and providing design support for erosion and sediment control plans, stormwater management plans, right-of-way plans, utility relocation plans, permit application drawings, and traffic related plans.
