Requirements
  • A Ph.D. in Biochemistry or an equivalent area is required.
  • A Ph.D. or M.D. is required.
  • At least three years of relevant work-related experience is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of scientific techniques are required.
  • Some experience running a laboratory, conducting funded research projects, and/or supervising postdoctoral researchers is required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
  • The ability to work with diverse constituencies is required.
  • Computer literacy is required.
  • Successful academic and research work resulting in authorship or co-authorship of papers in peer-reviewed journals is required.
  • The ability to develop collaborative research projects consistent with a mentor’s research plan and contribute to scientific advances is required.
  • The ability to teach in a laboratory setting and/or through presentations of papers or seminars is required.
  • A successful record of research projects or funding and contributions to collaborative grant applications, or the demonstrated ability to write competitive grants independently, is required.
  • A demonstrated desire to move toward scientific independence through grant applications, development of independent research projects, or collaboration with scientists other than the primary mentor is required.
Responsibilities
  • Manage research projects and supervise research projects involving interns, undergraduate students, and graduate students.
  • Lecture or conduct demonstrations and teach across University of Miami schools as needed.
  • Partner and collaborate with faculty in other departments to advance knowledge, training, and education.
  • Work under the direction of a principal investigator, program director, or designee.
  • Use creativity and latitude in performing research tasks.
  • Contribute to basic and applied research activities, participate in publishing significant results, and advance expertise through education, training, and/or research experience.
  • Seek research funding.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students, as well as postdoctoral associates.
  • Publish research papers.
  • Provide service to the department and the scientific community.
  • Present at national and international meetings.
  • Analyze and summarize data for original manuscripts, reviews, book chapters, editorials, and patent applications.
  • Establish and manage an independent research group.
  • Represent the department in diversity initiatives across campus and university-wide.
  • Mentor and advise students who identify as representatives of the LGBTQ community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
