Requirements
  • Be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university as a rising undergraduate junior or senior, graduate student, or postdoctoral student, and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship.
  • Be able to work under tight deadlines.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be able to manage multiple projects, anticipate project needs, and discern work priorities.
  • Be able to work effectively with diverse populations, including people of different genders, races, and sexual orientations.
  • Have technical proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Attend work regularly and reliably.
  • Exhibit respect and understanding of others to maintain professional relationships.
  • Use independent judgment when evaluating options and making sound decisions.
  • Be able to work in an office/open-office environment with moderate noise.
  • Be available to work from AARP's Louisiana State Office.
  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Responsibilities
  • Work with staff and volunteers to manage special projects and events.
  • Represent AARP at community events and public meetings.
  • Apply strategic, analytical, and creative thinking to help promote policy issues involving family caregiving, retirement security, and livable communities.
  • Research policy issues and draft documents to support advocacy efforts.
  • Participate in team meetings and strategy discussions.
  • Collaborate on communications tactics.
  • Support remote and in-person events.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with creating and editing videos.
  • Knowledge of multiple social media platforms.
