Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience is required; experience in an academic setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of research administration, preferably in academic institution clinical research, is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of financial principles, Medicare regulations, healthcare reimbursement principles, and laws and regulations guiding clinical research is required.
  • The ability to research complex information efficiently and use it to establish and improve work processes, reporting, and data analysis is required.
  • The ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations is required.
  • The ability to effectively plan, delegate, and supervise the work of others is required.
  • The ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others is required.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant proposal submissions.
  • Conduct comprehensive analysis and negotiate research agreements, evaluating terms and conditions of research grants and contracts from government, foundation, corporate, and industry sources.
  • Oversee staff responsible for creating compliant billing grids for clinical research projects to maintain billing compliance, when required.
  • Conduct comprehensive analysis and negotiate research contract and grant budgets, focusing on clinical care pricing and fair market value.
  • Interact with Office of Research Administration personnel, Principal Investigators, study teams, Compliance, the Institutional Review Board, the Human Subject Research Office, Technology Transfer, Risk Management, and other relevant offices to ensure efficient and compliant research initiation.
  • Leverage real-time dashboards to monitor team performance and ensure the team meets or exceeds Service Level Agreement Key Performance Indicator targets.
  • Drive team accountability by basing performance assessments on measurable data.
  • Identify process inefficiencies through data analysis and suggest or implement improvements.
  • Provide regular updates and status reports to senior management by tracking relevant data through University systems and other tools, including output and turnaround-time metrics.
  • Oversee, train, and mentor staff on the assigned team.
  • Partner with other departments to facilitate transparent and accountable research administration and coordinate documentation and approval processes.
  • Maintain effective relationships with sponsor representatives to facilitate communication.
  • Establish and continuously assess internal controls within the unit and ensure compliance with University policies and procedures.
  • Ensure employees are trained on controls and University policies and procedures.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Certified Research Administrator, Certified Financial Research Administrator, or Certified Health Research Coordinator certification is preferred.
  • Experience in an academic setting is preferred.
