The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Dell Medical School is seeking a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC- A) to work at the Bipolar Disorder Center as part of an interdisciplinary, team-based program that cares for people with bipolar disorder at UT Health Austin and conducts research at Dell Medical School. The LPC-A will join our growing multi-disciplinary team to conduct behavioral and mental health assessments, treatment planning, brief interventions, evidence-based psychotherapy, coordination of care, interdisciplinary team consultation as needed, and research-related activities in several studies funded by NIH, foundations, industry, among a few. The position will conduct research-related activities ethically and professionally.
The LPC-A will conduct comprehensive behavioral and mental health assessments specific to bipolar disorder (and comorbid disorders), formulate and implement individualized treatment plans, and engage in interdisciplinary team consultations as needed. The position will provide clinical expertise and support for an interdisciplinary team responsible for coordinating direct or indirect services for individuals and their support systems. Clinical supervision towards LPC licensure will be provided.
The position will excel as a customer service representative for individuals with bipolar disorder seeking research or care at the Bipolar Disorder Center Research and Clinical pillars. The LPC-A will assist an interdisciplinary research and clinical teams in the Bipolar Disorder Center / Almeida lab at Dell Medical School, Department of Psychiatry and Behavior Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin. The position will support research studies in the Bipolar Disorder Center that interface with real world clinical setting. The LPC-A will conduct research related activities in an ethical and professional manner.
Remote work will require reliable internet access and a suitable workspace free from distractions. A flexible working arrangement agreement will be required upon offer.
Purpose
The LPC-A Research and Clinical Associate will support individuals with bipolar disorder, along with their families and care networks, to improve overall functioning by providing counseling and care management services using a patient-centered, collaborative approach with an interdisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of an LPC-S, the LPC-A complete a bio-psychosocial assessment of patients. The applied biopsychosocial model and approach will include cognitive behavioral therapy, IPSRT, motivational interviewing, supportive therapy and/or other techniques and modalities as clinically indicated. Complete relative evaluations and treatment plans, and provide individual, family, and group psychotherapy. Participate in screening, tracking, and reporting of patient outcomes and social work interventions. Complete documentation in the clinical record related to interaction with individuals-served, families and other service providers in an accurate and timely manner, and in accordance with professional ethics and with both Federal and State regulations.
Serve as the main point of contact for bipolar disorder individuals. Follow up with bipolar individuals to ensure their issues are resolved to their satisfaction. Provide exceptional support to clients via phone, email, and chat. Assist clients with troubleshooting, scheduling, and resolving issues.
Develop, collect, conduct, and analyze research projects, including psychological measures using standard interviews (self-report and/or clinician-based) and neuroimaging measures as part of a team of faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate assistants. Offer guidance and support in navigating our research studies and clinical services. Develop and maintain working relationships with behavioral health providers in the community.
Collaborate with other team members to address complex issues and improve research and service quality. Evaluate, identify, and report on program processes and makes recommendations to leadership for improvement. Collaborate with leadership on program development opportunities.
Assist with data entry and database management. Contribute to creating and updating support documentation and FAQs. Assist with the creation, scheduling and promotion of psychoeducational presentations (this includes the planning for in-person and/or virtual events, confirming presenters’ availability, creating flyers, etc.).
Participate in departmental meetings, continuing education opportunities, academic and research opportunities to optimize patient best practice and interdepartmental collaboration. Participate in clinical supervision, consistent with applicant’s own licensure and experience.

Required Qualifications
Hold a Master's of Counseling or Master's in Social Work degree, which meets eligibility requirements in Texas for licensure. Be licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. Demonstrate the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with various other health care professionals (i.e., physicians, psychologists, social workers, care coordinators). Maintain a positive, compassionate, and professional attitude when engaging with patients and their family members. Possess excellent interpersonal skills; written and oral communication skills; organizational, planning, follow-up/follow-through, and time management skills. Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-provider practice environment. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications
Have a minimum of three (3) years of post-degree clinical experience, preferably in direct mental health practice. Have experience delivering care as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Have a working knowledge of and/or experience and certification with evidence-based therapies, bipolar disorder patients, and value-based healthcare delivery. Bilingual in English and Spanish. Have experience designing and managing the REDCap database. Experience with MRI. Experience with IRB. Experience with clinical trials.
Salary Range
$45,000+ depending on qualifications
