Three consultants about their flying start at Significant. March 13, 2026 Consultancy.nl Jorrit Veenstra, Skyler McKenney and Thisbe de Boer recently started as junior consultants at Significant. We asked the trio some questions about their start, their roles and development ambitions. Jorrit Veenstra and Skyler McKenney started as junior procurement advisors. Jorrit focuses on construction, infrastructure and mobility. With a background in commercial economics, he already has experience with tendering. Skyler worked as a freelancer at Significant for a while last year. Thisbe de Boer was also active at Significant at that time, but as an intern. She now strengthens the legal office in the field of procurement law. Skyler and Thisbe, your start is also a return. How does this work? And what was the highlight from your first period at Significant? Skyler: "I already walked around at Significant between September 2025 and the new year - then in a legal role instead of as an advisor. The highlight for me was the moment I was allowed to write a legal advice that went directly to the client. That felt a bit like being an advisor again." Thisbe: "In the period from September to October 2025, I completed a combined legal internship at Project Moore and Significant Synergy. What I found beautiful and particularly special to see was how a law firm and a consultancy firm can operate in the same field, but at the same time seek each other out as sparring partners and complement each other." What made the difference in choosing Significant? Jorrit: "The variety of social projects that Significant is involved in. Working for a company that contributes to creating a better society is something that motivates me. Also, the opportunity to use my commercial skills in my advisory role gives me a lot of energy." "Also, the people who work at Significant have made the choice easier for me. There is a warm culture where everyone is willing to help you." Skyler: "For me, that was mainly due to the diversity and quality of our clients. As a consultant, you look into and contribute to all kinds of different projects carried out by various public organizations. These are often projects that really matter and affect many people. This combination of variety and impact played a huge role for me in choosing to stay at Significant." "This profession attracts me because of the inherent variation and impact of the work on society." Thisbe: "For me, it was mainly the pleasant and human interaction between colleagues that made the difference. The way everyone works together in an open and sincere manner immediately appealed to me. Moreover, within Significant, there is always a strive for qualitative tailor-made solutions without compromising humanity. It is precisely that combination that made me choose Significant." What will you be doing at Significant and what attracts you to the profession? Jorrit: "I will be involved in guiding procurement procedures at Significant Synergy. The construction, infrastructure and mobility (BIM) domain appeals to me, and other projects where you influence current themes also attract me in this profession." Skyler: "I will mainly work at Significant Synergy, which means (helping) guide procurement procedures. This profession attracts me because of the inherent variation and impact of the work on society. Of course, we gladly help with all kinds of tenders, but it's the special projects that attract me the most." Thisbe: "At Significant, I will work as a legal counsel. With my academic background in information law, I focus on issues surrounding the GDPR and technological development. Additionally, in my work, I will deal with procurement and contract law." "What particularly attracts me to the profession is the combination of legal complexity, social relevance and the opportunity to help organizations with clear, usable advice." You all three come in with different backgrounds. How does Significant take into account your own wishes and ambitions? Jorrit: "During my job interviews and also afterwards, I was asked several times what interests me. This is taken into account, and within the BIM domain, for example, I am already involved in two different projects. I was also asked to support the bid-office team, which fits well with my commercial background." "My personal ambitions actually get a place within the work." Skyler: "So far, that has mainly been evident from the way management handles the projects I'm in. They listened to what interests me, and from that came a healthy mix of assignments that I choose myself and those assigned to me. I am encouraged to join initiatives myself, and that freedom works very well for me because it provides space to fill my agenda with things I'm enthusiastic about." Thisbe: "Significant strongly takes into account our individual wishes and ambitions. For me, this means that with my legal background, I can specifically grow in the direction that suits me. I get the space to further deepen my expertise in information law, while I also have the opportunity to develop myself in procurement law and contract law." "That combination of tailor-made solutions, trust and professional development opportunities ensures that my personal ambitions actually get a place within the work." What kind of assignment are you working on at the moment? Jorrit: "Currently, I am involved in six different projects. My favorite project is one with a municipality where they are working on the realization of an energy hub. Together with partner Rinke Meijer, I get to help set up the strategy phase of the procurement process." "This energy hub is necessary due to current network congestion. That topic falls within our BIM domain. The assignment also gives me a lot of energy because I have been involved in this procurement process from the beginning." Skyler: "Currently, a highlight for me is the tenders we help with within a juvenile detention center. From my legal background and preference for criminal law, this assignment is extremely interesting because it provides insight into the working methods and needs of an organization like this." "I hope to grow into an experienced procurement consultant with a lot of specialized knowledge and professional skills." Thisbe: "At the moment, I am working on a mix of internal and external assignments. Internally, I answer ad hoc legal questions from colleagues, monitor the legal quality of our advice and think about various legal themes. Additionally, I work on external advice and research projects for our clients." Finally, what do you hope to achieve in the coming years? Jorrit: "I hope to grow into an experienced procurement consultant with a lot of specialized knowledge and professional skills in my first years. My goal is to build a CV in which I have contributed to many social projects that align with, among others, the BIM domain. I also hope to contribute to the bid-office team from my commercial background." Skyler: "In terms of personal development, my focus initially is still on acquiring specialized knowledge and professional skills. When I look around, I see competent, sharp consultants walking around at Significant - and that's what I want to become too. Additionally, I hope to be able to work on a number of cool, socially impactful projects." Thisbe: "In the first years at Significant, I mainly want to invest in my personal and professional development within the legal field. I want to further deepen my expertise in information law and at the same time become stronger in procurement law and contract law." Space for everyone's talent. Thus, Jorrit, Skyler and Thisbe have clearly found their place at Significant with their different backgrounds and get the chance to shape their own careers.
