Requirements
  • Ability to independently manage a significant volume of transactions.
  • Demonstrated competence using spreadsheet and database software for financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, maintain strong organization and communication, and provide customer service across broad and diverse subject areas.
  • Current knowledge of compliance regulations in research administration.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal, and reporting principles.
  • Knowledge of grant funding processes, procedures, and techniques.
  • Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for different audiences while adhering to funding sponsor guidelines.
  • Knowledge of National Institutes of Health grant policies governing research conduct, proposal submission procedures, and award management.
  • A bachelor's degree in a related area or an equivalent combination of education, experience, training, and certifications.
  • Four to five years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
  • Independently develop and oversee the preparation and submission of basic and clinical research proposals and other contract and grant management transactions.
  • Maintain contract and grant records in compliance with institutional research and sponsor policies.
  • Develop proposal budgets of diverse scope and analyze data involving complex regulations.
  • Complete and approve transactions for signature by a manager or other authorized institutional official.
  • Work on complex proposals and pre-award matters involving multiple investigators and multiple subawards.
  • Provide training and assistance to School of Medicine faculty and department staff on grant proposal preparation, routing procedures, Just-In-Time activities, and compliant award management.
  • Prepare and review proposals for Dean's endorsement to ensure that proposal content follows agency regulations, University policy, and applicable state and federal laws; responds to sponsor interests and guidelines; contains accurate and appropriate budget requests; and complies with the Code of Federal Regulations and Cost Accounting Standards.
  • Analyze and implement changes to School policies and procedures for process improvement and compliance with federal, state, and University requirements.
  • Review changes in University, federal, and sponsor policies, determine their applicability to proposal preparation and award administration, disseminate information to the research community, and implement compliant changes.
  • Attend trainings and forums to maintain professional knowledge of laws and regulations governing proposal development and UCI campus procedures.
  • Prepare miscellaneous contract- and grant-related duties and reports as assigned by School leadership.
Desired Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge of compliance requirements related to human or animal research subjects, financial conflict of interest, and biosafety.
  • Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines for federal and non-federal research and education sponsors, preferably in a university environment.
  • Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
  • Two years of University of California research administration experience.
