Requirements
  • At least 3 years of experience managing a physical location or operations environment as a General Manager, Location Manager, or similar role.
  • Curiosity about artificial intelligence and willingness to incorporate it into management practices.
  • A business ownership mindset focused on outcomes and performance metrics.
  • Ability to develop people and distinguish developing team members from doing their work for them.
  • Experience handling member and customer relationships, including conversations requiring experience, empathy, and authority.
  • Clear and direct communication so team members understand expectations and the Market Leader remains informed.
  • Operational instincts to identify patterns, determine root causes, and resolve issues at the system level.
  • Comfort with financial fundamentals, including occupancy, labor cost, and margin.
  • Comfort using Slack, Rippling, and operational reporting platforms, along with willingness to adopt new tools.
Responsibilities
  • Own the location's business performance, including occupancy, member satisfaction, revenue targets, and budget adherence.
  • Review location performance weekly, identify issues, and escalate matters requiring attention to the Market Leader.
  • Keep labor costs, supply budgets, and vendor relationships within established parameters.
  • Build and develop the location team, owning its growth, performance, and confidence as operators.
  • Make headcount decisions, determine when to hire, make final hiring decisions, and onboard new team members.
  • Conduct performance reviews, corrective action conversations, and retention or separation decisions.
  • Coach the team through difficult situations to support their development.
  • Own member retention and identify problems before they lead to cancellations.
  • Lead tours and onboarding conversations involving high-value prospects, complex scenarios, and key relationship moments.
  • Resolve member escalations, billing disputes, contract conversations, and other issues requiring authority.
  • Ensure the location meets operational standards by building systems and maintaining accountability.
  • Resolve recurring operational problems at the system level by addressing root causes.
  • Represent the location to the Market Leader and central teams, communicating operational insights, risks, and opportunities.
  • Keep standard operating procedures current and followed, and conduct regular audits to identify gaps.
  • Use Saltbox reporting tools, Pulse, scheduling, and performance dashboards to monitor location performance.
  • Set expectations for team use of available tools and follow through on adoption.
  • Stay current on system changes and prepare the team for them.
  • Open the location on time and to standard, with the team hired, trained, and ready before opening.
  • Ramp occupancy to target after opening and maintain a plan when occupancy declines.
  • Meet or exceed member-retention targets and identify churn risk early.
  • Keep revenue and budget within plan, including labor and supply spending within parameters.
  • Conduct weekly performance reviews on schedule and escalate issues to the Market Leader before they worsen.
  • Pass operational-standard audits and enable the Lead to maintain standards independently.
  • Resolve member escalations at the location without routinely escalating them elsewhere.
