Requirements
  • A minimum of a baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a United States Department of Education-recognized regional or national accrediting body is required for full-time core faculty occupational therapy practitioners teaching in the program; the degree is not limited to occupational therapy.
  • A current Occupational Therapy Practitioner license, or eligibility for licensure, in California is required.
  • Certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant or Occupational Therapist is required.
  • A current CPR card is required.
  • A minimum of three years of related practical work experience in occupational therapy practice is required.
  • Documented expertise in the assigned teaching area and knowledge of content delivery methods, including distance learning, are required.
  • For the Adult Care specialty, experience as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant in adult neuro-rehabilitation care settings is required.
  • For the Pediatrics specialty, experience as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant in pediatric settings is required.
  • The candidate must demonstrate thorough, accurate, and practical knowledge of the field or discipline and the ability to interpret and evaluate its theories.
  • The candidate must effectively operate instructional equipment and machines, as well as office equipment such as a computer terminal, calculator, and copier.
  • The candidate must be able to work effectively in a highly ethnic and culturally diverse student and associate community.
  • The candidate must use effective oral and written communication, presentation, listening, interpersonal, facilitation, conflict-resolution, analytical, organizational, and customer-service skills.
  • The candidate must be able to self-direct, self-pace, multitask, work under deadline pressure, exercise good judgment, interpret policies and regulations, assure compliance, and work with individuals at all organizational levels.
  • The candidate must demonstrate training in educational methods, testing and evaluation, and instructional methodology, delivery, and techniques within 30 days of beginning instruction.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office is required.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver class and clinical instruction according to approved course syllabi, program objectives, and timelines.
  • Develop daily lesson plans, instructional outlines, and training schedules.
  • Use appropriate instructional methods and learning strategies, modifying them to meet diverse student needs.
  • Advise, tutor, and provide individualized tutorial or remedial instruction to students.
  • Observe and evaluate student work, monitor progress, provide feedback, and suggest improvements.
  • Develop students' communication and higher-order thinking skills through appropriate assignments.
  • Present lectures and conduct discussions using visual aids such as graphs, charts, videotapes, and slides.
  • Administer standardized oral, written, and performance assessments.
  • Supervise independent and group projects, field placements, laboratory work, and other training as needed.
  • Conduct simulated on-the-job training, classes, and training sessions to teach and demonstrate relevant principles, techniques, procedures, and methods.
  • Provide approved books, materials, supplies, and equipment for courses, training, and projects.
  • Monitor and record daily attendance and grades according to established procedures and deadlines.
  • Maintain regular office hours for student advisement and consultation.
  • Participate in graduation ceremonies, faculty meetings, professional development, in-service events, student functions, orientations, open houses, conferences, seminars, and advisory board meetings.
  • Refer students to other college personnel or departments as needed.
  • Collaborate with college administration, staff, and faculty to improve college and program operations.
  • Participate in implementation of the Program Effectiveness Plan.
  • Maintain student information and records privacy and confidentiality.
  • Substitute for other instructors within the field or discipline when needed.
  • Maintain and safely use college facilities, department equipment, materials, and supplies; identify unsafe conditions and make appropriate adjustments.
  • Participate in student, faculty, and staff marketing and recruitment activities.
  • Maintain professional appearance, regular and timely attendance, and accurate time and time-off records.
  • Follow college policies, ethical and compliance standards, applicable laws, and professional standards.
  • Maintain order, cleanliness, and safety at work.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master's degree in a healthcare field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of education standards such as Title IV, Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education, Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools, Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education, and other accreditation standards is preferred.
  • Prior training in instructional methodology and teaching skills from a formal teacher education program, comparable training program, or formal in-house training program is preferred.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule is preferred.
  • Ability to travel or drive locally on a weekly, daily, or as-needed basis is preferred.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus but not mandatory.
