As anArchitect on our team, you'll play a key role in designing and overseeing construction projects that serve the public in Suffolk County. You’ll review architectural plans, manage budgets, and ensure projects meet our high standards for safety, efficiency, and design excellence.

Salary: $74,124 per year
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Graduation from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or Architectural Technology, AND
Seven (7) years of architectural experience, two (2) years of which must have been as a licensed architect.
A valid New York State architect’s license (must be maintained throughout employment in this title)
PROMOTIONAL
Two (2) years of permanent competitive status as an Assistant Architect or Building Project Coordinator; and, possession of a professional architect's license issued by New York State at the time of appointment.
FURTHER POSITION DETAILS:
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of architecture
Thorough knowledge of the planning, design and construction of public buildings
Good knowledge of modern developments, current literature and sources of information in the field of architecture
Full knowledge of applicable laws and regulatory codes relevant to the construction and renovation of buildings
Ability to plan, design and prepare architectural plans and specifications
Ability to perform engineering computations and to make comprehensive recommendations on architectural problems
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

This Role Is A Provisional Appointment
A provisional appointment, which occurs only in the competitive class, is a temporary appointment to a position for which no eligible list exists or for which an eligible list exists with fewer than three candidates who are willing to accept the position. In order to become permanent, the employee who is provisionally appointed must take the next examination for the position in question. The appointment to the position is then made from among the three highest scoring passing candidates who indicate their willingness to accept the position. Civil Service law does not compel the appointing authority to choose the provisional employee should he or she be one of the three candidates
