Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree completed within the past 5 years (and have not yet pursued or earned a Master’s degree) and a commitment to ongoing learning.
  • Demonstrated technical and design experience with Photoshop and/or InDesign. Design samples required;
  • An interest in learning about museum marketing and communications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and social media skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and to work independently to meet deadlines
  • Available to work evening programs as needed.
Responsibilities
  • Help sustain and build program content via SCMA’s social media (Facebook and Instagram), e-blast communications, and website;
  • Design and develop student- and community-focused marketing materials related to SCMA programs and exhibitions for both print and online outlets;
  • Publicize exhibitions, installations and SCMA’s permanent collection via onsite signage and online communications
  • Help promote, staff, and coordinate documentation for major programs offered by the museum;
  • Support the development and distribution of media announcements on a wide variety of topics, from new acquisitions to special exhibitions;
  • Participate in various cross-departmental teams at SCMA;
  • Assist with the production of the museum’s annual report;
  • Provide support as needed for other routine operations including: meeting coordination, mailings, museum signage, departmental phone coverage, and other tasks as assigned.
  • With supervisor support and mentorship, conceptualize, plan and implement an original project that engages SCMA audiences and aligns with the museum’s mission and departmental goals;
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners on implementing the project. This project typically culminates in the second year of the fellowship.
  • With supervisor guidance, identify and participate in workshops and trainings that contribute to the fellow’s learning and skill-building in museum marketing and communications;
  • Represent SCMA at local, regional and national meetings, workshops, lectures, conferences, and/or other learning opportunities that support the interests of the individual and department, as approved by the Associate Director of Communications.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in the museum field or a cultural institution is desirable.
  • Proficiency working within Google Suite and similar computer applications
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
