Job Summary:

The Department of Communication Arts is seeking an organized and detail oriented Undergraduate Program Assistant  to provide a range of administrative support for the undergraduate programs. This position’s responsibilities include building and maintaining course schedules in SIS, providing course enrollment support, coordinating course evaluations, maintaining departmental data, processing undergraduate scholarships, and managing department space and supply inventories. This position reports to the Department Administrator and works closely with the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Undergraduate Program Manager, academic advisors, Chair’s Assistant, and other faculty and staff. 

The Undergraduate Program Assistant will need to be collaborative and able to work effectively with a diverse community of faculty, and staff. To be successful, the person in this role will be an excellent communicator, proficient user of spreadsheets, and highly organized with an eye for detail.

Key Job Responsibilities:

• Identifies program, needs, contributes to the development of unit workflows, schedules logistics and secures resources for meetings, events, and interviews

• Utilizes independent judgement regarding development, implementation, promotion, and evaluation for one or more academic programs, initiatives, or events

• May supervise the day to day activities of one or more academic programs and resolves issues exercising discretion to meet unit goals.

• Coordinates program components and evaluates program effectiveness and provides recommendations for improvement

The Department of Communication Arts offers one of the largest majors on campus and has two undergraduate certificate programs. The department is home to 50 faculty and staff and 70 graduate students. We offer four graduate programs, all of which showcase our faculty's cutting-edge research in media and communication. The Instructional Media Center in the Department of Communication Arts is the hub of all technical support and instructional technology for faculty, staff and students in CommArts. Communication Arts is home to many centers and programs, including the Center for Communication Research, the Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater Research, UW Cinematheque, and the Wisconsin Film Festival.

Compensation:

The expected salary range for this position is $43,000 up to $60,700 for highly experienced candidates. Actual pay within this range will depend on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum one year of administrative work experience

• Experience using computer software/programs (e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, databases, etc.)

• Strong organizational, verbal and written communication, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills

• Demonstrated ability to work as a team and independently with limited supervision

• Ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in a higher education environment

• Experience using campus course scheduling software (SIS, 25Live)

Education:

Bachelor’s degree preferred
