Analytical Chemist (Method Development Chemist)

Redwood Materials is looking for an experienced Analytical Chemist in Method Development to drive the development and implementation of industry standard and novel test methods for the Redwood Materials Analytical Laboratory. The Redwood Materials Analytical Laboratory supports routine and non-routine analytical testing for quality, R&D, and other business units within Redwood Materials.

Responsibilities will include:

• Provide critical technical support to a team managing the day-to-day operations of a high-through put analytical laboratory.
• Develop and validate test methods to meet accuracy, precision, robustness, specificity, linearity, detection limit, and any other requirements.
• Lead cross-functional discussions to define test method performance criteria and business requirements.
• Ensure developed methods meet all required customer, safety, and industry standards.
• Author test methods documents and associated lab standard operating procedures to be consistently performed by lab technicians of various technical backgrounds and capabilities.
• Train and certify lab staff to perform to associated testing practices to method requirements.
• Establish method and equipment quality controls based on potential failure points determined during method development.
• Implement method improvements over time based on learnings from routine analysis, best practices, test failures, and customer requests.
• Work with lab management to optimize processes and reduce test cycle times.
• Support the selection, purchasing, installation of analytical instrumentation and other sample preparation associated equipment.
• Support lab testing, handling, and safety of non-routine materials.
• Support the creation of calibration and preventative maintenance practices for major analytical instrumentation.
• Support lab management in the implementation of best laboratory practices for incoming, process, and final product testing to provide timely and consistent testing services for internal and external customers.

Desired Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemistry or related scientific field with 4+ years of method development experience. Masters (MS) or PhD in Chemistry or related scientific field with 2+ years method development experience.
• 4+ years in a quality laboratory environment desired.
• Demonstrated ability to develop test methods utilizing multiple pieces of instrumentation listed in the Knowledge and Skills section.
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure while pushing projects to completion with strict timelines.
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple projects of various priorities.
• Experience with method development, validation, and transfer in a quality environment.
• Experience with a wide range of instrumentation software, Microsoft Office Suite, Minitab, and other statistical software.
• Experience with Laboratory Information Management software systems (LIMS).
• Previous hands on experience with HPLC, IC, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, LCMS, GCMS, TOC, BET, PSA, KF Titration, Tap Density, XRF, SEM, XRD, Tensile Testing, and/or other analytical and battery material testing instrumentation.
• Knowledge of ISO 17025, ISO 9001, and IATF 16949 standard requirements.
• Knowledge of standard industry practices for method development, transfer, and validation.
• Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) principles.
• Ability to remain positive and professional in a high-pressure environment.
• Strong analytical problem solving, organizational, and documentation skills.
