Requirements
  • At least 8 years of firmware development experience, including at least 2 years leading or mentoring a team.
  • Deep expertise in embedded C and C++ for high-performance, real-time applications, including FreeRTOS.
  • Proven experience with ESP32, STM32, or comparable chipsets.
  • Strong background in AWS IoT Core, fleet management, and over-the-air systems.
  • Fluency with Linux, Python, and command-line tools.
  • Experience with low-level hardware and operating-system internals at the kernel level.
  • Debugging experience with JTAG, SWD, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
  • Ability to work from the Bay Area office 3 days a week.
  • Eligibility to maintain full-time employment in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and grow a small firmware engineering team, including hiring, mentorship, and technical direction.
  • Develop end-to-end embedded C and C++ across the stack, including FreeRTOS, interrupt handling, JTAG/SWD debugging, and chip bring-up.
  • Implement data communication between peripherals and microcontrollers, including ESP32, STM32, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth Low Energy.
  • Build secure over-the-air pipelines and implement bootloaders.
  • Develop AWS IoT Core infrastructure, including mutual TLS, MQTT, fleet provisioning, and IoT Jobs over-the-air updates.
  • Develop firmware for motor control across BLDC, custom PMSM, axial flux, and series elastic actuator systems, including systems currently using C2000.
  • Provide technical direction for chip selection, actuator firmware requirements, and future system architecture.
  • Contribute to adjacent product development, including a Parkinson's device and future clinical and research platforms requiring edge compute.
  • Wear prototypes several hours per week for on-body testing and data collection.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with permanent magnet synchronous motor control on Texas Instruments or STMicroelectronics chipsets.
  • Background in robotics, powered consumer electronics, drones, or other moving systems.
  • Familiarity with TensorFlow Lite Micro or X-CUBE-AI.
  • Startup experience and comfort using artificial intelligence coding tools.
  • Personal motivation to improve human movement.
