Requirements
  • Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 3 years’ progressive related experience or High School diploma plus 5 years’ progressive related experience.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment on a wide variety of tasks is critical.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Outlook is required.
  • Must be fitted for and qualify for use with various respiratory protection and personal protective equipment.
  • Must be able to participate in National Response Asset Deployment activities.
  • Must be able to qualify within 1 month of start date to the DOE Radiological Control Technician (RCT) standardized core training programs.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Must posses strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work well as an individual or in a team environment.
  • Basic knowledge of radiation protection principles is required.
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age.
Responsibilities
  • Perform radiological surveys and monitor radiological conditions and work practices utilized Mission Support & Test Services, LLC (MSTS) and/or subcontractors in assigned areas.
  • Prior to use, verify that radiological instrumentation is functioning properly. Such instrumentation includes, but is not limited to, air sampling equipment, dose rate meters, and contamination monitors.
  • Select and post various radiological signs to ensure that radiological work sites are properly identified to prevent unauthorized access.
  • Review radiological work permits, work packages, and procedures, ensuring that work is performed in accordance with approved work control documents.
  • Participate in briefings and advise other personnel on radiological conditions and requirements of a particular work situation.
  • Ensure generation of records for radiation surveys and other job activities utilize appropriate forms and logbooks, as required.
  • Implement stop work authority in a responsible manner when radiological or safety conditions warrant.
  • Assist, as assigned, in accident or occurrence investigations.
  • Support/participate with and be a member of various emergency response teams with the potential of U.S. and worldwide travel.
  • May coordinate assigned work with other technical personnel as directed.
  • Maintain current training and qualifications and attend onsite and offsite training as necessary to maintain competency in the radiological control field.
  • Perform related work as assigned by supervisor.

  • May be required to participate in the Human Reliability Program (HRP).
  • May be requested to perform on call work
