Requirements
  • Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Current licensure as required by the state board where services are provided, including licensure as a dietitian through the West Virginia Board of Licensed Dietitians for West Virginia.
  • Five years of clinical nutrition experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to teach classes to dietitians, food service workers, and the public.
  • Ability to read and write in the medical record and survey patient units.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to respond to changes in work volume throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work Saturdays and some holidays and attend occasional evening meetings.
  • Ability to interact positively with co-workers, patients, families, and other members of the medical team.
  • Ability to stay current with professional nutrition literature through journals and listservs.
  • Ability to create and interpret staff schedules.
  • Ability to manage staff effectively, including evaluations, scheduling, and disciplinary actions.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement department policies and procedures that support clinical services while maintaining compliance with The Joint Commission.
  • Maintain effective documented communication with medical, nursing, and administrative personnel concerning patient nutritional care.
  • Evaluate staff productivity and determine the need to increase staffing as the hospital grows.
  • Hire, evaluate, direct, coordinate, and supervise clinical dietitians.
  • Ensure implementation of nutrition assessments, screening, nutrition care plans, and patient education and counseling according to department policies and standards of care.
  • Coordinate quality improvement activities in patient care by monitoring and evaluating clinical activities and taking appropriate action to improve care and maintain quality improvement programs.
  • Approve the diet manual and all menus and menu changes.
  • Provide orientation, in-service training, and continuing education for self, staff dietitians, and food service technicians.
  • Participate in committee activities concerning nutritional care.
  • Maintain the current diet order list in accordance with Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics guidelines.
  • Maintain the clinical aspects of CBORD, including nutritional analysis of items, recipes, and menus.
  • Coordinate outpatient nutrition care, including outpatient dietitian services, cancer center patient screening and counseling, cardiac rehabilitation education, speaking engagements, and community health fairs.
  • Maintain the formulary for nutrition supplements and tube feedings and work with information technology to establish an interface for these products between CBORD and Epic.
  • Ensure continuity of care between inpatient and outpatient nutrition care services.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Nutrition or a related field.
  • Membership in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Leadership roles held within the state dietetic association.
