Requirements
  • A Ph.D. or Master's degree in power electronics systems engineering or a similar field from an accredited university, or an MS in engineering from an accredited university with an emphasis in Power Electronics.
  • At least 6 years of experience in power electronics or power conversion, including work performed during pursuit of a Ph.D.
  • At least 2 years of experience and deep understanding of semiconductor technologies, including IGBT, SiC, GaN, thyristor, and transistor-based devices, and their implementation in high-density and large power converter applications.
  • Strong understanding of switching waveforms, loss modeling, PWM control, and overall power electronics design.
  • At least 3 years of experience in electrical power systems, including designing and building test-bench systems for rotating machines and other power and propulsion equipment.
  • Ability to work at the required location in Imperial, Pennsylvania.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Ability, if applicable, to obtain U.S. Government authorization to access U.S. export-controlled information.
Responsibilities
  • Review customer requirements for large industrial, marine, renewable, and naval power converters and identify gaps between those requirements and available power converter capabilities.
  • Prepare detailed electrical and electronics specifications for power systems that capture customer requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership in trade studies and architecture decisions affecting circuit component and part selection, board layout, and material selection.
  • Design and develop high-power converters, including selecting power semiconductor technologies, designing magnetics and auxiliary circuitry, and validating critical power components.
  • Lead advanced power converter and power system projects from concept through delivery of validated solutions.
  • Document project technical data in accordance with engineering policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Maintain ownership of project engineering deliverables, including drawings, bills of materials, specifications, and test and commissioning procedures.
  • Model and simulate power electronics circuits and electrical systems using MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, PSIM, or LTspice.
  • Create power electronics models for power-system and power-quality studies.
  • Analyze interactions between power electronics and electrical grids or microgrids, including grid-tied and islanded stability, power quality, harmonic distortion, and EMI/EMC filter design.
  • Develop component and system mock-ups and prototypes and perform hands-on laboratory work.
  • Develop and execute validation test plans.
  • Validate prototypes, evaluate power converter performance, troubleshoot hardware faults and failures, and characterize electrical and functional performance.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert leading design reviews and defining requirements for converter layout and digital communication.
  • Provide technical guidance to PCB layout engineers, controls engineers, and junior mechanical and electrical engineers.
  • Serve as the customer-facing technical lead or principal investigator on power conversion, power systems analysis, power systems controls, and energy storage system integration projects.
  • Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting assigned projects and participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews.
  • Manage design reviews for power converters.
  • Partner with project managers to maintain timelines, communicate challenges to leadership, and meet customer needs.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards, including UL, IEC, IEEE, NEC, and MIL.
  • Perform Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis and reliability assessments.
  • Work with external consultants and third parties to achieve product-design certifications, including UL, CSA, CE, and MIL certifications.
  • Partner with firmware, mechanical, manufacturing, sourcing, and application engineering teams to ensure manufacturability and meet cost and performance targets.
  • Interface with relevant teams to ensure suppliers' products and services meet specifications.
  • Collaborate with global GE Vernova Power Conversion & Storage organizations to identify applicable power converter technologies for North American customers.
  • Prioritize customer and partner needs to ensure timely delivery of high-quality engineering solutions.
Desired Qualifications
  • Demonstrated expertise in AC/DC, DC/DC, and DC/AC converter design and in controlling voltage-source and current-source power converters, supported by prior written published work.
  • Experience and knowledge of power electronics and power systems modeling and simulation using MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, and other modeling and simulation tools, supported by prior modeling results.
  • Expertise in circuit design for low- and medium-voltage converter applications, including designing, debugging, and testing gate drivers, controllers, busbars, and current sensors, demonstrated through prior coursework or published papers.
  • Knowledge of design for manufacturability and the ability to create practical designs meeting production, cost, quality, and assembly requirements.
  • Strong writing skills for generating technical white papers and proposals.

GE Vernova and Quanta Services poised to weather market crash with strong backlogs and AI-driven growth

GE Vernova and Quanta Services are positioned as resilient stocks that could withstand market volatility, according to a new analysis. Both companies are benefiting from surging demand for electrical infrastructure driven by AI and data centre expansion. GE Vernova, spun off from General Electric in 2024, has seen its stock rise more than sixfold since debut. The company's backlog expanded 37% year over year to $176.3 billion at the end of Q2 2026, nearly four times its projected annual revenue of $46.2 billion. Quanta Services, an energy infrastructure builder, reported a backlog of $53.4 billion in Q2 2026, up 49% year over year. The company's revenue is projected to grow 39% in 2026. Analysts expect GE Vernova's revenue and adjusted EBITDA to grow at compound annual growth rates of 17% and 60% respectively from 2025 to 2028.

GE Vernova hires Rivian CFO Claire McDonough, leaving EV maker without clear successor

GE Vernova has hired Claire McDonough as CFO, effective 1 January, leaving electric vehicle maker Rivian to find her successor. McDonough joined Rivian in January 2021 and helped take the company public through a $13.7 billion IPO that November. She also negotiated Rivian's technology joint venture with Volkswagen, which agreed to invest up to $5.8 billion. Rivian shares fell more than 6% following the announcement, whilst GE Vernova shares declined about 3%. Analysts cited Rivian's lack of a clear succession plan as a factor weighing on its shares. Derek Mulvey, Rivian's VP of finance, is expected to serve as interim CFO after McDonough's departure. McDonough will join GE Vernova in November, succeeding Kenneth Parks, who is retiring.

SpaceX builds turbine foundry to break AI power bottleneck, cut GE Vernova wait times by 18 months

Elon Musk's SpaceX is building a foundry in Bastrop, Texas, to manufacture blades and vanes for industrial gas turbines, according to The Information. Musk confirmed the move on X, saying in-house casting could accelerate natural gas turbines coming online by up to 18 months. The initiative targets the same supply chain bottleneck GE Vernova has flagged to investors. GE Vernova CEO Scott Strazik said the company pushed suppliers to add capacity in 2024, sometimes providing capital for new furnaces. GE is mostly sold out through 2030 and aims to increase annual turbine production from 20 gigawatts this year to 30 GW by decade's end. SpaceX has committed over $2.8 billion to gas turbines over three years to support its Colossus data centres near Memphis. The move addresses growing power demand from AI infrastructure expansion.

GE Vernova and LS Electric form JV to target South Korea's HVDC market

GE Vernova has formed a joint venture with LS Electric to strengthen its position in the high-voltage direct current sector.
