Requirements
  • Graduate from an ARRT-recognized education program, or be ARRT or ARMRIT registered or registry eligible.
  • Obtain an advanced MRI registry within one year of hire.
  • Obtain current BLS certification within three months of hire.
  • Demonstrate competency in venipuncture for patients requiring contrast administration during MRI studies.
  • Demonstrate competency in the RIS/HIS modules appropriate to the job responsibilities.
  • Meet the physical and sensory requirements, including assisted pushing, pulling, and lifting of patients up to 400 pounds and lifting or moving objects up to 30 pounds.
  • Have no metal implants or pacemaker that would contraindicate working around the MRI magnet.
Responsibilities
  • Perform MRI examinations on patients according to department procedures and under the direction of the department Section Chief and Manager.
  • Maintain technical continuity of care for patients receiving MRI studies.
  • Communicate clinical observations made during MRI examinations to radiologists and present the recorded clinical history to the radiologist.
  • Assist in gathering and recording data and serve as a committee member for the Radiology Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement program.
  • Follow downtime procedures to ensure appropriate information is available for continuity of patient care.
  • Maintain professional development through active participation in in-services and continuing education programs.
  • Provide educational information to patients regarding their examinations.
  • Ensure the quality of digital images sent to PACS; verify the correct patient is selected from the worklist and ensure medical record information is accurate before sending images to PACS.
  • Review the patient safety checklist before each study.
  • Support department patient-experience goals by providing patient education and a personalized business card, and sending or giving apology cards when patient expectations are not met.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of experience as a staff technologist is preferred.
  • One year of experience as an MRI technologist is preferred.
