Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • Current Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant certification and state licensure.
  • Eligibility for hospital credentialing and privileging.
  • DEA registration or eligibility.
  • Strong clinical assessment and inpatient management skills.
  • Knowledge of gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary disorders.
  • Ability to manage complex, acutely ill patients.
  • Strong organizational and documentation abilities.
  • Commitment to evidence-based, patient-centered care.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout hospital units.
  • Manual dexterity for bedside assessments and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Provide inpatient gastroenterology consultation and follow-up care.
  • Evaluate and manage patients with acute and chronic gastrointestinal conditions, including gastrointestinal bleeding, inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, pancreatitis, and bowel obstruction.
  • Perform comprehensive histories, physical examinations, and daily patient assessments.
  • Develop and implement care plans in collaboration with supervising gastroenterologists.
  • Manage medications and supportive therapies related to gastrointestinal conditions.
  • Interpret laboratory data, imaging studies, and diagnostic results relevant to gastrointestinal care.
  • Assist with pre- and post-procedure care for endoscopic and interventional procedures.
  • Coordinate care with hospitalists, surgeons, interventional radiology, nutrition services, and nursing staff.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and discharge planning.
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and utilization initiatives.
  • Comply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards.
  • Provide coverage on inpatient units and GI consultation services during daytime, weekends, or on-call periods as required.
