Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) seeks to fill a Manager Digital Engineering 3 opportunity. This is a dual role manager position, involving both overall management of a Software and Digital Technologies (SWDT) section (comprising multiple functional groups), and performance of individual productive work on a program or several programs.
This individual will be responsible for software and digital technologies for the Land and Maritime Sensors (LMS) Business unit within the Maritime / Land Sensor Systems (MLSS) Division of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems, and will report to the Engineering Director for this business unit. The section manager is a manager of manager positions for ~40 employees with direct supervision of the individual group managers and the senior technical staff. Specific management responsibilities include staffing programs, managing nonapplied time, managing headcount and mentoring; yearly goal setting; review and evaluation of employee performance; employee skill development and career growth; monitoring of compliance with department processes and company values; providing team leadership and engagement; and approving time charging. Additional responsibilities include collaborating with peer section managers on interacting with business division counterparts to coordinate staffing and other program support (e.g. proposal reviews, design reviews, customer meetings). The section manager will be responsible for implementing the vision of the department within his/her section, and leading department initiatives.
The section manager will also be expected to perform productive (direct-charge) work on programs. It is anticipated that the section lead will charge programs directly for 60-80% of their time and charge indirect for 20-40% of their time.
The direct program work may include technical work, IPT leadership, consulting, proposal support, or any other appropriate engineering leadership or support.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Lead section staff based on goals, objectives, and company policies
Monitor and maintain Software and Digital Technologies process
Ensure adherence to established engineering processes
Provide leadership and support to programs and Digital Technologies teams to successfully achieve engineering objectives and program milestones.
Provide engineering staffing to programs
Manage workload forecasting, hire/develop engineering talent
Prepare, manage, and conduct performance reviews
Manage indirect charging of section staff
Lead compensation planning, promotion evaluations and other employee recognition activities for section
Support proposal activities (lead, technical/management volume development, Basis of Estimate (BOE) development/defense).
Support and lead engineering organization efforts aimed towards skill and career development; continuous improvement; and growth.
This position is contingent upon successful transfer of an active DoD Secret Clearance
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of experience, a Master’s degree with 6 years of experience or a PhD with 4 years of experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics, or related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
U.S Citizenship is required
An active DoD Secret Security Clearance is required
5+ years of experience with design, verification and integration & test of software and digital technology products for radar, electronic warfare, or related sensor systems.
3+ years of prior experience in people leadership
Strong leadership qualities, including excellent communication and collaboration, team engagement, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in technical discipline.
Top Secret clearance and/or SCI with CI or FS polygraph
Ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP)
Experience leading large groups in a functional, programmatic, or technical capacity
3+ years prior functional management experience

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Salary Range: $178,500.00 - $267,700.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
