Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and collaborate with special education staff and district or building administrators to develop and adjust programming for special education students in Setting III programs.
  • Collaborate with the Special Education Manager on the supervision, coordination, evaluation, and daily accountability of special education and related-services personnel within Setting III programs.
  • Provide a comprehensive staff-development system to support compliance with special education laws and rules and improve research-based practices.
  • Collaborate with directors, building administrators, the Special Education Manager, and coordinators to screen, interview, and recommend hiring certified special education teachers and educational assistants or paraprofessionals.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to evaluate and supervise departmental staff within Setting III programs.
  • Plan and implement professional-development opportunities related to special education program needs.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of Setting III special education programs and oversee paraprofessional assignments and daily activities.
  • Attend IEP team meetings as the district representative for Setting III students.
  • Support scheduling and collaboration with contracted service providers.
  • Support accurate recordkeeping and progress tracking for students with disabilities.
  • Coach special education teachers in parent communications, areas requiring growth, and compliance with IEP, evaluation, and progress-report deadlines.
  • Promote the school and Setting III special education program to current and prospective families.
  • Communicate changes in due-process requirements and support staff in completing due-process documentation and paperwork.
  • Develop procedures for disseminating due-process information regarding student needs, accommodations, modifications, and health-related conditions.
  • Resolve, mediate, and address complaints or concerns related to due process, hearings, or related issues.
  • Advise and interpret special education requirements, rules, expectations, and responsibilities for administrators, staff, principals, parents, and others.
  • Attend and participate in IEP meetings for students with significant disabilities or where conflict is imminent.
  • Facilitate, lead, or participate in parent meetings presenting program options to families.
  • Act as a liaison for the child-find process.
  • Ensure due-process procedures are met for all Setting III students.
  • Prepare and deliver professional development for general and special education teachers on special education and integrated-services topics.
  • Supervise student activities, including bus duty and breakfast or lunch duty as assigned.
  • Participate in required parent meetings, parent-teacher conferences, graduation, and three HCPA volunteer activities.
