Job Details:
The Hogg Foundation for Mental Health is accepting applications from graduate students at The University of Texas at Austin for one graduate research assistant to work with the Foundation’s Archives Unit. The student position begins 08/16/2026 and ends12/31/2026. The position may be considered for renewal for the spring 2026 semester.
The purpose of this graduate research assistant position is to support the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health in preserving and sharing the history of mental health in Texas by assisting with archives and records management projects. The position provides a graduate student with hands-on experience in archives, records management, and historical research.
The graduate research assistant will help with managing and preserving the foundation’s 85+ years of records. Projects include:
Assisting in the migration to ArchivesSpace;
Researching the foundation’s history and giving presentations to staff;
Assisting in the Dialogues on Mental Health Records project by attending and taking notes at the symposium on UT campus Thursday, September 24 and Friday, September 25.
Must be a graduate student enrolled full-time at the University of Texas at Austin (9 credit hours in fall/spring semesters, 3 credit hours in summer semester)
Interest in mental health promotion, records management, archives
Ability to work independently and take initiative on projects
Ability to maintain a regular and consistent schedule
Demonstration of professional demeanor
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Graduate students in theSchool of Information with a focus on archives or records management
Graduate students in history or American studies with an interest in the history of mental illness
Graduate students in the School of Social work with an interest in history
Salary
$1,900 monthly
Graduate students employed as TAs, AIs or GRAs are eligible for the TRB, the amount of which is determined by the number of hours employed per week during the Fall or Spring as specified below:
For half-time appointments (20 hours/week) or more, the TRB provides 9 credit hours of resident (in-state) tuition.
