  • Meet the educational and applicable experience requirements for registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or Cardiovascular Credentialing International.
  • Hold American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or Cardiovascular Credentialing International registration in the applicable area or areas of specialization.
  • Hold Basic Life Support certification, or obtain it within the first 90 days of hire.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of ultrasound physics and instrumentation.
  • Have patient management skills.
  • Have verbal and written communication skills.
  • Have interpersonal skills.
  • Be skilled in using personal computers and related software applications.
  • Be able to maintain records.
  • Be able to allay patient anxiety.
  • Be able to meet the stated physical and environmental demands, including frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and exposure to biohazardous conditions.
Responsibilities
  • Perform clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations using specialized equipment and devices.
  • Explain testing procedures to patients, obtain and record relevant medical histories, select appropriate equipment settings, and position patients to facilitate optimum diagnostic results.
  • View, record, and analyze images on screen; determine whether images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes; communicate findings to appropriate personnel; and maintain imaging data, data tracking, and scheduling records.
  • Maintain adequate supplies, equipment, and the work area, and report equipment failures to a supervisor.
  • Assume responsibility for patient safety and provide physical and psychological comfort to patients.
  • Promote continuous improvement in workplace safety, environmental safety, exposure control, and infection control practices.
