  • An Associate's degree from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology is required.
  • Registered ARRT (R) upon hire, with ARRT CT certification required within 15 months of hire.
  • Registered ARRT (NM) or NMTCB upon hire, with ARRT CT certification required within 15 months of hire.
  • Advanced CT certification must be attempted by 12 months and completed no later than 15 months after employment begins.
  • Successful completion of hospital, core, and department-specific orientation is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required within six months after hire.
  • Demonstrate human-relations skills for dealing with patients, physicians, and others in difficult or sensitive situations, including verbal and written communication, problem solving, and assertiveness.
  • Demonstrate customer-service orientation, leadership and organizational skills, independent judgment, initiative, and the ability to operate basic department record-keeping computer programs.
  • Be able to stand and walk considerably, lift light objects up to 20 pounds, and assist with lifting and moving patients.
  • Maintain alertness and concentration during detailed, repetitive work and extended computer or CRT use.
Responsibilities
  • Receive or escort patients into the examination area, review pertinent patient information, and instruct patients about the examination.
  • Prepare and calibrate equipment for each procedure.
  • Assist radiologists during special procedure studies, including angiograms and vena cavagrams, to provide optimal diagnostic and special radiology examinations.
  • Perform computerized tomography scans on all body parts as ordered by physicians in consultation with radiologists.
  • Operate sophisticated electronic equipment during examinations while observing patient vital signs and other pertinent data and anticipating physician needs.
  • Administer or assist with administering contrast media under radiologist direction.
  • Work as a radiologic technologist in other radiology sections as workload requires.
  • Work in the radiology department or other hospital areas as necessary to meet patient and physician needs.
  • Operate equipment properly, perform maintenance and quality-control work, and report malfunctions, adjustments, or repairs.
  • Perform first aid and assist with adverse reactions to contrast media or other emergencies.
  • Observe sterile technique and prevent cross-contamination of contagious diseases.
  • Maintain cleanliness of procedure rooms and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate patient and file documentation.
  • Maintain appropriate supply levels in assigned areas.
  • Demonstrate or oversee on-the-job training for student technologists and other nonprofessional assistants as assigned.
