About the Role
As Uber Eats has grown from a restaurant only business to selling everything from groceries to flowers, our Catalog system has had to evolve significantly. Catalog is critical to help:
- Make it easy for Customers to shop and have confidence in what they’re purchasing
- Make it easy for Shoppers to locate, select, and deliver the correct products
- Make it easy for CPG’s to advertise their products and have the best possible performance
- Make it easy for Merchants to understand performance and manage and grow their business
- Make it easy for Uber to quickly onboard new merchants and gather as much information as possible about what we’re selling
What the Candidate Will Do
As the Lead PM for the Catalog Ingestion Team you will be responsible for defining the vision and strategy for how we tackle the problem of getting every possible piece of information from merchants into Uber from product information, availability, pricing, store location, etc. You will need to define strategies for SMB’s which may be more manual, to Enterprise which may prefer a more programmatically automated approach. In addition to building products, you’ll need to partner closely with your Ops and Marketing partners to develop communications to help internal and external stakeholders understand our product capabilities and how to use them easily.
Additionally as an emerging business, we have a long list of merchants to integrate with, setting up a massive backlog of merchants that we need to prioritize between. You will be responsible for collaborating with program and ops teams to define a framework for which integration method is best for each merchant and what order we’ll tackle the backlog in to ensure we’re delivering the most value for Uber and merchants
Lastly, you will be responsible for maintaining a high-quality and healthy ingestion pipeline which requires defining the strategy for what health is. This means providing visibility into integrations and status of pipeline, detecting and alerting when issues occur, and tools and processes to quickly resolve issues when they arise.
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years experience delivering successful and innovative products with your fingerprints all over them
- B2B Experience. Experience building products for large businesses and working directly with their business and tech teams.
- Technical savviness. Can manifest in different ways: a computer science undergraduate degree, hands-on software engineering experience, or experiences building complex software products side by side with engineers. Ability to get into the details of an API and understand data pipelines.
- Attention to detail. The ability to obsess over every single part of the retailing process
- Customer obsession. The ability to take on complex product challenges and find elegant, simplifying solutions to avoid making them our users and partner’s problems
- Finger-tippiness with data. You find a way to get the data you need and whip it into an insightful story with no help. You know how to leverage this data to make decisions without getting stuck in analysis paralysis
- Grittiness. You never hesitate to roll up your sleeves and tackle something hands-on
- A high bar across the board — from your own contributions to the people you work with, to the products you work on
- A true passion for Uber’s mission, our products, and the company’s hybrid technology/operations nature
- A never-ending desire to grow and learn
Preferred Qualifications
- E-Commerce, Grocery, and/or Retail Catalog and/or Inventory management Experience. You would have directly built products to support product catalogs or inventory management systems.
