  • A bachelor's degree.
  • Eight years of experience in fundraising, with a focus on annual giving, marketing, or a related field, including at least one year in a people-management role in healthcare. Internal employees may qualify with seven years of relevant experience and Houston Methodist performance demonstrating leadership responsibility.
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through multiple channels with patients, physicians, family members, and coworkers using a customer-service focus and positive-language principles.
  • Ability to build confidence in the organization’s intentions through effective interpersonal interactions.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive annual-giving program using industry best practices.
  • Design creative fundraising strategies across digital and print channels to grow donor participation, strengthen the giving pipeline, and maintain consistent, brand-aligned messaging.
  • Design and implement analytical tools to measure and ensure program effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with Foundation leadership, internal stakeholders, and vendors to manage the annual appeal calendar and deliver timely solicitations.
  • Develop and implement pipeline strategies that move donors through the continuum to major and principal gift levels.
  • Manage the daily work activities of department staff and ensure quality, productivity, functional excellence, and efficiency.
  • Provide guidance to staff and manage staffing, budget compliance, staffing decisions, employee coaching and counseling, policies, procedures, training, monitoring, and operational compliance initiatives.
  • Select, schedule, supervise, retain, evaluate, develop, and mentor department employees, including developing direct reports to perform these functions.
  • Conduct department meetings, employee rounding, performance appraisals, new-hire feedback sessions, coaching or corrective counseling, and employee recognition.
  • Facilitate team dynamics and team-building strategies within and between departments, and lead department process improvements.
  • Maintain relationships with marketing vendors and collaborate with Foundation staff, hospital leadership, faculty, and stakeholders to develop annual-giving appeals and collateral across multiple media.
  • Plan and organize daily department operations, schedules, and activities; set priorities and functional standards; and direct staff to support service delivery and customer satisfaction.
  • Participate on entity committees as a department representative.
  • Implement strategies to increase annual-giving participation, including new-donor acquisition, donor retention, gift growth rate, and donor lifetime value.
  • Develop coordinated communication and solicitation strategies involving email, direct mail, phone, and mail.
  • Monitor and revise department safety plans and required accreditation, regulatory, and safety guidelines, including infection-control principles.
  • Monitor staff credentials and competency requirements.
  • Use and optimize information systems to enhance operations and support performance improvement and data-management and analysis functions.
  • Monitor and improve department workflow, report accidents and adverse events, identify solutions collaboratively, and apply lean principles to process improvement.
  • Monitor employee compliance with policies, procedures, and human-resources standards and take associated corrective actions when needed.
  • Lead and manage the Foundation annual-giving strategy, ensuring communications align with system brand, communication, and digital strategies.
  • Coordinate opportunities to improve the donor experience through team-produced content and materials.
  • Develop the department budget, manage expenses within approved parameters, and achieve budgeted revenue and expense targets.
  • Develop staffing plans and schedules that reflect department needs and cost-effectiveness.
  • Implement strategies to achieve financial targets and staffing needs by optimizing productivity and resource efficiency.
  • Manage annual-giving program expenses within budget and recommend improvements to spending and results.
  • Identify and implement innovative workflow solutions and lead unit or department projects and shared-governance activities.
  • Evaluate processes, recommend and implement change plans, and ensure sustainable results.
  • Build strategic relationships across areas, teams, departments, and units to achieve business goals.
  • Identify developmental needs of self and staff and conduct staff development conversations.
  • Recommend annual-giving strategies to Foundation leadership in support of Foundation goals.
