Requirements
  • A B.S. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with significant process modeling experience.
  • Three to eight years of experience designing and simulating adsorption or gas-separation processes.
  • Expertise in Aspen Plus, including custom isotherms and dynamic cycles, gPROMS, or equivalent process-modeling software.
  • Deep understanding of mass transfer, reaction kinetics, heat transfer, and property estimation methods.
  • Proven ability to validate simulation and modeling results through lab-scale or pilot-scale experimentation, including designing tests, analyzing data, and refining models.
  • Hands-on experience sizing pressure vessels, piping networks, heat exchangers, pumps, and blowers.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or Inventor and AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with pilot-scale builds, instrumentation calibration, loop checks, and on-site troubleshooting.
Responsibilities
  • Build and validate cyclic adsorption temperature-swing adsorption and pressure-swing adsorption flowsheets in process-modeling software, including custom isotherm and kinetic models.
  • Analyze breakthrough curves, cycle efficiency, and heat integration.
  • Develop detailed mass and energy balances for energy systems and carbon-capture processes.
  • Generate process flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams from process simulations.
  • Size pressure vessels, adsorption beds, heat exchangers, pumps, blowers, and piping networks based on process conditions.
  • Create or review computer-aided design assemblies and AutoCAD schematics to ensure process equipment fits skid dimensions and meets requirements.
  • Work with shop and controls teams to oversee fabrication, instrumentation, and loop checks.
  • Participate in testing development and data review.
  • Use testing results to update simulation parameters and re-optimize cycle timings or hardware specifications.
  • Partner with chemical, mechanical, and controls engineers and technicians to align on control strategies, safety interlocks, and operational procedures.
  • Identify design-to-cost opportunities and reliability enhancements.
  • Propose material, cycle, or control refinements to increase capture rate and reduce parasitic loads.
Desired Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience with cyclic adsorption systems using Aspen Adsorption or equivalent.
  • Experience designing modular or containerized process skids for rapid deployment.
  • Experience with control-system co-simulation, including distributed control system or programmable logic controller loop tuning and model-based control strategies.
  • Experience with computational fluid dynamics or multiphase-flow modeling to support detailed mechanical design.
  • Experience scaling processes from pilot to demonstration or commercial units.
  • Familiarity with gas-analysis instrumentation.
