Requirements
  • 0–2 years of professional Android development experience, or equivalent experience through internships, coursework, personal projects, or other software development work.
  • Familiarity with Kotlin and modern Android application development.
  • Experience with or an interest in learning Jetpack Compose.
  • Basic understanding of asynchronous programming concepts such as Kotlin coroutines and Flow.
  • Familiarity with common Android architecture concepts, dependency injection, and local data storage.
  • Interest in working with hardware integrations such as RFID readers, barcode scanners, sensors, or other peripheral devices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to debug issues, ask questions, and learn unfamiliar technologies.
  • Familiarity with software testing concepts such as unit, user interface, or instrumentation testing.
  • Willingness to learn about cybersecurity, application hardening, and Department of Defense deployment requirements.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
  • Familiarity with Git for day-to-day source control, including creating branches, making commits, pulling changes, and pushing code.
  • Comfortable working with pull requests and participating in a collaborative code review process.
  • Basic understanding of resolving merge conflicts and keeping a local branch up to date with the team’s codebase.
  • Ability to write clear, meaningful commit messages and follow established branching and source-control practices.
  • Willingness to learn the team’s development workflow, including continuous integration, continuous delivery, and release processes.
Responsibilities
  • Build new features and help maintain the Android application for rugged Zebra handheld devices.
  • Work within an existing multi-module Android codebase alongside more experienced developers.
  • Write clean, reliable Kotlin and Jetpack Compose code that interacts with RFID, barcode, and sensor data.
  • Help implement offline data handling, local caching, and secure storage solutions.
  • Collaborate with backend teams to support reliable application syncing and a consistent user experience.
  • Assist with testing, debugging, and troubleshooting device issues, including issues found in field environments.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and team efforts to improve code quality and application reliability.
  • Learn and apply Android development best practices, secure development practices, and patterns used across the application.

  • Exposure to Dagger Hilt, Room, or similar Android libraries and frameworks.
  • Familiarity with multi-module Android projects or modular application architecture.

  • Experience with Zebra handheld devices, Zebra software development kits, or other rugged mobile hardware.
  • Exposure to RFID, barcode scanning, inventory management, or asset tracking workflows.
  • Familiarity with automated testing for Android applications.
  • Exposure to cybersecurity, Risk Management Framework/Authorization to Operate, application hardening, or Impact Level 4/Impact Level 5 environments.
  • Interest in building reliable mobile applications for industrial, logistics, or defense environments.
