The Underwriting Intern will learn the basics commercial auto and garage underwriting over the course of the summer. The intern will also spend time with the Commercial Auto and Garage (CAG) leadership to get an overview of operations and management within the team.
Key Accountabilities/Deliverables:
Complete an email contact project for the insureds/brokers for the Commercial Auto and Garage team. This project involves reaching out to brokers and making contact with insureds to verify and update contact information.
Follow up on lost large quotes to confirm what competitor we lost to. This involves gathering information from brokers on who we lost the quote to and why. This serves as a marketing tool to help us improve for the future.
Assist with driver / vehicle ratio review – Reports or alerts are generated when we have more vehicles in the fleet than the number of drivers available. The intern will work with our Underwriting Technicians send out a letter to the broker to request additional drivers, as well as obtaining Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) on the drivers.
May be assigned other duties, such as clerical items
Technical Knowledge and Understanding:
Must be computer proficient
Excellent phone skills
Prior insurance knowledge preferred, but not required
Experience:
Must be a current college student working towards either a bachelor’s or master’s degree
Preferred majors include: Insurance Risk Management, Finance, Accounting, Business or a related field
Must be able to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship
The expected pay range for the role is $20. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and experiences. The disclosed pay range estimate may also be adjusted for the applicable geographic differential for the location in which the position is filled.
