Requirements
- J.D. degree from a top accredited institution and admission to practice (or in-house eligibility) to practice law in New York
- 5+ years combined experience in the areas of data privacy and protection, negotiating data privacy related agreements, understanding of the interplay between technology and data privacy and advising on consumer-related issues; top law firm and prior in-house experience preferred
- CIPP/US, CIPP/E or CIPM privacy certifications, Project Management Professional (PMP) certification are pluses
- Experience in counseling regarding data security issues, including incident response
- Ability to independently drive accountability and influence outcomes
- Assertion when required - you're able to challenge and be challenged both internally and with clients in a constructive and respectful way
- Advanced problem-solving skills - you're able to quickly digest a problem, evaluate solutions, and then empower others to deliver
- Strong detail orientation, with the ability to produce work product that demonstrates advanced skills in the following areas: (i) subject matter expertise, (ii) analysis and creativity, (iii) oral and written communications and advocacy, and (iv) client management and acceptance
- Demonstrated ability to handle a broad range of responsibilities and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to balance legal risk mitigation against key business objectives and risks
Responsibilities
- Advise all internal clients on the development, collection, use, transfer, and governance of data
- Lead large-scale compliance efforts as needed, such as CCPA/ CPRA and other emerging laws
- Develop a deep understanding of SeatGeek's product and data flows; conduct new product/feature reviews and assist with technology integrations involving personal data
- Partner with other members of the legal team in contract negotiations involving personal data, data protection agreements, and general privacy issues
- Maintain partnerships with internal stakeholders, including Product, Marketing, People, Security, and Engineering to educate and identify potential privacy concerns
- Assist with incident response and any regulatory inquiries or investigations
- Draft or enhance data governance policies, including guidelines on biometrics, retention, access, privacy-by-design reviews, data protection impact assessments, data transfers, and vendor management
- Manage, draft, and update privacy notices and work with consumer-facing teams to respond to customer questions regarding SeatGeek's privacy program
- Conduct reviews of the our privacy program to ensure it reflects changes in laws and company policy; develop/implement risk mitigation and corrective action plans where needed; identify and drive improvements to automaton of privacy controls and processes to meet objectives
- Advise on privacy training strategy and execution for areas of coverage
