- A nationally certified Advanced Practice Provider credentialed and licensed to provide primary or specialty care in the applicable state.
- APRN candidates must hold an MSN or higher graduate degree in nursing upon hire or within three years of hire and graduate from an accredited APRN program.
- PA candidates must graduate from an ARC-approved Physician Assistant program and hold a Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies and/or applicable state licensure.
- APRN candidates must hold current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse certification and applicable state nursing licensure, including prescriptive authority certification where applicable.

- Candidates must demonstrate advanced assessment and diagnosis competency, analytical and decision-making ability, critical thinking, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

- Evaluate, treat, and document cardiothoracic surgery patients during pre-operative, intraoperative, and postoperative periods and provide follow-up after discharge.
- Round in the intensive care unit and on the floor, evaluate and treat patients after discussion with the supervising physician, document care in the electronic medical record, place orders, and follow up on order completion.
- Prepare daily progress notes, consultation notes, discharge summaries, and patient education.
- Perform endoscopic and open conduit harvesting for coronary artery bypass grafting, including vein and radial artery harvesting.
- First-assist during cardiac and thoracic operations, including coronary artery bypass grafting, valve repairs and replacements, aortic aneurysm replacements, and aortic dissections.
- Provide cross-coverage for thoracic surgery cases, including open and minimally invasive esophagectomies and lung resections through video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery.
- Conduct clinic visits, perform small office procedures, return patient phone calls, and educate patients and family members.
- Conduct medical histories and physical examinations, initiate appropriate laboratory, radiology, cardiographic, and other diagnostic testing, review results, and establish diagnoses and treatment plans.
- Perform and interpret routine laboratory, radiologic, cardiographic, and other diagnostic procedures to identify pathophysiologic processes.
- Perform injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and evaluation and therapeutic procedures for complex illness, injury, and life-threatening situations as privileged by the Credentialing Board.
- Prescribe and monitor medications as permitted by state prescriptive authority and Cleveland Clinic policy.
- Perform specialized procedures including bone marrow aspirations, biopsies and harvests, blood draws, designated intravenous starts, spinal taps, thoracentesis, and paracentesis as directed by the physician and approved by the Credentialing Board.
- Provide patients with information about their diseases, preventive health maintenance, treatments, medications, side effects, and hazards.
- Participate in medical team rounds and collaborate with nursing, medical, and other healthcare team members to ensure quality patient care.
- Refer patients to specialists and specialized health resources when appropriate.
- Coordinate continuity of care between patients, the multidisciplinary care team, and specialty areas.
- Perform research follow-up studies and assist with data analysis.
- Participate in quality monitoring by reviewing records and treatment plans for patient outcomes.
- Facilitate appropriate length of stay, discharge planning, and compliance with regulatory standards for inpatient management.
- Serve as a clinical preceptor for Physician Assistant and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse students and other health professionals when assigned.
- Serve as faculty for onboarding new employees when assigned.
- Work Monday through Friday with intermittent weekend call coverage.
- Two years of clinical nursing experience for APRN candidates.
- Two years of relevant clinical experience for PA candidates.

↑ 0%Cleveland Clinic has rolled out ambient AI scribes to approximately 5,000 providers following a successful pilot programme. The technology records, transcribes and summarises patient-physician conversations, reducing documentation time by two minutes per appointment and 14 minutes daily. In 2024, 250 physicians tested five ambient listening products. Cleveland Clinic selected Ambience's AI platform, and within 15 weeks of launch, 4,000 clinicians were actively using it. The system is now expected to document one million patient encounters by August 2025, with physicians using it for roughly 76% of scheduled office visits. The AI adapts to medical specialties and requires patient consent and physician review before entering electronic health records. Chief Digital Officer Rohit Chandra said the technology has restored "joy" to caregiving by reducing administrative burden.
Scientists at Cleveland Clinic, RIKEN and IBM have simulated protein complexes of up to 12,635 atoms using quantum computers — the largest-known simulations of biologically meaningful molecules performed with quantum hardware. The achievement signals quantum computers are maturing into useful scientific tools for biology, chemistry and life sciences research. The breakthrough was enabled by a novel algorithm that optimises collaboration between quantum and classical computers, a framework called quantum-centric supercomputing. The team captured the behaviour of two biochemically relevant proteins roughly 40 times larger than what the same method could achieve six months ago, whilst improving accuracy by up to 210 times. The research used IBM's 156-qubit Quantum Heron processors at Cleveland Clinic and RIKEN, working alongside supercomputers Fugaku and Miyabi-G, to model molecular systems relevant to drug discovery.
Cleveland Clinic has partnered with Luminai, a San Francisco-based AI startup, to automate complex administrative healthcare workflows. The collaboration coincides with Luminai's $38 million Series B funding round, bringing total capital raised to approximately $60 million, with backing from Peak XV Partners, General Catalyst, Define Ventures and Y Combinator. The health system, which employs over 80,000 staff across 23 hospitals, selected Luminai to address administrative burdens that account for roughly a quarter of US healthcare spending. Initial deployment focuses on referral management, where Cleveland Clinic processes thousands of daily faxes requiring manual review and routing. "The goal is to reduce administrative burden and allow our caregivers to focus on patient care," said Rohit Chandra, Cleveland Clinic's chief digital officer. The partnership reflects growing pressure on health systems to modernise operations whilst managing workforce shortages and rising costs.
Medtronic has announced the first US commercial surgery using its FDA-cleared Hugo robotic-assisted surgery system, successfully performed at Cleveland Clinic by Dr Jihad Kaouk. The robotic-assisted prostatectomy patient was discharged the following day. The Hugo RAS system features a mobile footprint with modular arms designed to address operating room scheduling challenges and infrastructure limitations. The system aims to expand access to minimally invasive surgery, which offers benefits including reduced blood loss, shorter hospital stays and decreased recovery time compared to open surgery. Cleveland Clinic, Duke University Hospital and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist High Point Medical Center are among the first US hospitals to install the system. The Hugo RAS system is available in over 35 countries. Medtronic plans to expand indications beyond urology into gynaecologic and general surgery procedures.
