Requirements
  • Prior experience operating and setting up computer numerical control (CNC) machines.
  • Knowledge of G and M codes.
  • Knowledge of blueprint reading.
  • Intermediate mathematics skills, including algebra and trigonometry.

  • Ability to set up and operate a CNC machine.

  • Ability to work shifts of up to 8–10 hours and overtime as required.
  • Ability to perform repetitive lifting, pushing, pulling, and prolonged standing, bending, climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and walking.
  • Ability to use hands and arms dexterously and steadily for extended periods.
  • Ability to maintain simultaneous mental and muscular coordination and visual and auditory awareness of the surrounding area.
Responsibilities
  • Safely set up mills by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; and tramming heads.
  • Set up mills for mill operators and mill apprentices, guide them through jobs, remain responsible for their jobs, and check their parts.
  • Start, stop, and set up milling machines safely.
  • Load the feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
  • Verify machine settings by measuring positions, first-run parts, and sample workpieces while adhering to international standards.
  • Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, cutting, turning, facing, knurling, and thread-chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; and following quality-assurance procedures.
  • Maintain safe operations by following safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintain equipment according to manufacturer instructions, troubleshoot malfunctions, and call for maintenance when needed.
  • Maintain continuity between work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Complete production and quality logs.
  • Maintain 6S standards—sort, set, shine, standardize, sustain, and safety—in all workstations.
  • Complete other duties assigned by the supervisor.
