Requirements
  • At least five years of experience taking products from concept to production.

Responsibilities
  • Work within cross-functional project teams to create, evaluate, and prove new product architectures and refine them for handoff to New Product Development.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to understand clinical, usability, and other user needs for surgical instruments and accessories.
  • Develop technical requirements based on customer needs, commercial objectives, regulatory requirements, and feasibility constraints.
  • Perform conceptual design, detailed design, analytical modeling, prototyping, data analysis, and troubleshooting of novel instruments and accessories for the da Vinci robotic surgical system.
  • Develop and perform early performance testing, and assist with bench, ex-vivo, and in-vivo laboratory testing with clinical experts.
  • Develop and manage relationships with key partners.
  • Provide written protocols, reports, and presentations related to design activities.
  • Review mechanical engineering designs of other engineers in formal and informal capacities.
  • Refine and document product designs to support transfer into the New Product Development organization.
  • Assess technologies from outside entities for potential licensing and adaptation to the da Vinci product line.
  • Identify, test, and report on new materials, manufacturing processes, and technologies that could benefit existing products or enable new designs.
  • Document, prepare, and review patent submissions.

Intuitive leases 316,000-sq-ft facility in Penang to manufacture surgical instruments, create 1,200 jobs by 2032

Intuitive, the global leader in minimally invasive care and pioneer of robotic-assisted surgery, has signed a lease agreement with Penang Development Corporation for a new manufacturing facility in Malaysia. The 316,000-square-foot site in Bandar Cassia Technology Park will produce surgical instruments and electromechanical devices for Intuitive's da Vinci surgical system. The facility is expected to begin operations in 2028 and create 1,200 highly skilled jobs by 2032. The investment reflects Intuitive's commitment to Asia Pacific, where its da Vinci systems have treated more than 2.5 million patients across 13 markets over two decades. The expansion aims to support growing demand for robotic-assisted surgery across the region and strengthen Penang's position as a MedTech manufacturing hub in Southeast Asia.
