General Description:
The Mixed Signal Solutions department at HRL Laboratories is an integrated team of scientists and engineers focused on the design and integration of leading-edge mixed signal systems involving novel architectures and algorithms, customized integrated circuits (ICs) and printed circuit boards (PCBs), and aggressive packaging and integration techniques. As a member of the team, you will help design the electronic solutions to transition innovative concepts into prototype hardware.
Essential Duties:
Design engineering solutions for electrical and electronic parts, analog and digital subsystems, and algorithms based on established engineering principles and in accordance with development technology practices and guidelines.
Generate board-level circuit requirements. Develop and implement test plans for existing designs, including validation of tolerances, form/fit/function, shock and vibration, electromagnetic interference, safety, reliability, thermal generation, and system power measurements related to printed circuit assemblies. Collaborate and communicate with internal and outsourced development partners on electrical hardware design and development. Analyze product requirements from a system and hardware perspective to propose high-performance, cost-effective solutions.
Required Skills:
Experience with taking a complex design through the entire H/W development cycle (specification, schematics, layout, bring-up, characterization, and testing).
Experience with system bring-up and debugging complex embedded systems.
Experience with high-speed digital design e.g. PCIe, SERDES, HDMI. Proficient with CAD tools (preferably Allegro) for design, layout and simulation.
Possess a good working knowledge of fundamental high-speed electrical engineering principles and circuit design principles. Knowledge of power integrity concepts (decoupling capacitors, transient response, PDN design, etc.).
Knowledge of signal integrity concepts (crosstalk, insertion/return loss, termination, BGA breakout, fab material selection, etc.).
Knowledge of fundamental microelectronic test procedures and equipment (particularly RF measurements such as VNA and TDR).Use of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and proficiency in writing for reporting
Required Education:
BS, MS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related scientific discipline.
Physical Requirements:
Proficiency in the use of computers, engineering workstations, complex electronic equipment, oral and written communication, interaction with vendors/colleagues, and willingness to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Ability to work well in a team and independently.
Must be sufficiently mobile to work within confined spaces and have both visual and hearing acuity.
Special Requirements:
U.S. citizenship is required.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Active SSBI is a plus.
Compensation:
