Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in Actuarial Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries designation.
  • At least five years of actuarial experience; life insurance and/or valuation experience is preferred.
  • At least three years of experience in data and technology, including database administration and writing code to query data using SQL, NoSQL, or similar technologies.
  • At least one year of professional experience with programming languages such as Python, R, or Spark using version control or Git; Python experience is required.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining modern data solutions within cloud architecture in an Amazon Web Services or Azure ecosystem.
  • Spreadsheet and database capabilities including Excel, SQL, and Python, including programming and cloud integration.
  • Ability to communicate with technical audiences with varying actuarial backgrounds.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain cloud-implemented processes using Azure and Databricks for controlled monthly valuation reporting.
  • Perform data transformation and maintain or adjust data to keep actuarial data pipelines functional for monthly valuation.
  • Implement process changes and optimize valuation-process backend programs to improve flexibility and automation.
  • Assist with code reviews and deploy changes to actuarial processes in production environments using version-control tools such as Git.
  • Advise on implementing projects supporting technology and accounting changes, including new valuation systems, regulations, guidelines, accounting methods, and technology updates.
  • Collaborate with modeling, finance, audit, and information technology teams to maintain valuation operations and incorporate new items into downstream reporting processes.
  • Identify process-improvement opportunities, such as procedure automation, and recommend and implement solutions.
  • Support production of monthly reserves according to statutory and tax accounting requirements and actuarial principles.
  • Compile information for schedules and exhibits in quarterly and annual statements.
  • Process year-end valuation materials for the Maryland and New York Departments of Insurance.
  • Monitor valuation checklists and schedules, understand process dependencies, and coordinate across the valuation team to meet monthly, quarterly, and annual closing deadlines.
  • Support reinsurance solutions, including captive insurance companies, surplus relief, and traditional reinsurance.
  • Compile reinsurance financial reports and review settlements for all reinsurance entities.
  • Comply with relevant professional-development requirements and guidelines.
  • Support additional projects as required.
