Requirements
  • Bachelors, Masters’ or PhD Degree in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • A minimum of 10-15 years’ experience in failure analysis
  • Proven track record of working across organizational boundaries to accomplish strategic objectives and managing priorities and conflicts.
  • Familiar with HDD media processes, or those of a similar technology
  • Can demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and a failure analysis mindset
  • Experience with Optical Microscopy and AFM, and SEM/EDX
  • Familiar with Candela-OSA as it applies to media failure analysis
  • Database and Query writing skills, and knowledge in statistical analysis (Minitab/JMP) are a plus
  • Excellent team player who thrives on collaboration with teammates as well as cross-functional teams
  • Strong communication, technical failure analysis report writing, and presentation skills
  • Must be fluent in English
Responsibilities
  • Performing Failure Analysis on HDD media to identify defect root cause(s).
  • Utilizing project management and problem-solving experience, along with strong self-initiative and self-learning capabilities, to support defect reduction roadmaps.
  • Leading lab analysts/technicians to complete failure analysis jobs, generating clear and concise failure analysis reports, and assisting process engineering teams address the root cause of failures
  • Driving internal process teams to implement corrective actions to reduce causes of failure.
  • Collaboration with global failure analysis team members, as well as process engineers, to capture common defect observations and drive defect reduction improvements
  • Developing new failure analysis processes and capabilities required for next-generation products and unique failure events
  • Innovating failure analysis methodologies and techniques to improve TAT and accuracy
  • Utilizing interpersonal skills to perform at a leadership role including influencing, engaging and motivating teammates and customers.
