Requirements
  • Active U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance and U.S. citizenship are required.
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or equivalent experience is required.
  • At least 5 years of embedded software development experience in C and/or Rust is required.
  • Experience with low-level embedded development and debugging, ARM-based processors and system-on-chip platforms, and firmware and hardware/software integration is required.
  • Strong understanding of memory management, concurrency, and deterministic embedded behavior is required.
Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain embedded software primarily in C and Rust for cryptographic and security-critical platforms.
  • Architect cryptographic information assurance software and systems, including security boundaries, trusted services, and separation of cryptographic and non-cryptographic functions.
  • Perform trade studies and embedded architecture design, emphasizing memory-safe designs and transitions from C to Rust.
  • Support the NSA High Assurance certification process through requirements decomposition and traceability, security architecture definition and documentation, certification artifacts and evidence, technical reviews, and certification milestones.
  • Develop and maintain formal engineering documentation, including Software and Hardware Requirements, Interface Control Documents, and Software/Hardware Design Descriptions.
  • Develop and execute unit, integration, and acceptance testing, including hardware-in-the-loop and security-relevant test cases.
  • Manage configuration control for software development items in certified baselines.
  • Collaborate with systems, hardware, security, and test engineers.
  • Identify and implement process, tooling, and automation improvements to support secure development and certification efficiency.
  • Travel approximately 5% for customer interaction, test events, or off-site integration activities.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least 8 years of embedded or firmware development experience.
  • Experience with Rust in constrained embedded environments, including no-std, heapless, and hardware abstraction layers.
  • Direct experience with NSA High Assurance certification, Risk Management Framework, or similar Department of Defense security frameworks.
  • Familiarity with cryptographic system design, key management, and secure boot/trust architectures.
  • Experience with openOCD, gdb, JTAG/SWD debugging, and AMD Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC platforms, such as the Xilinx ZCU102/104 Evaluation Kit or similar.
  • Experience working on waterfall- or agile-methodology-based projects.
  • Ability to assess technical risk and security impact in technically rigorous, collaborative teams.
