Requirements
  • A BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required.
  • At least 2 years of medical device industry or relevant biomechanical research experience in the orthopaedic field, preferably spine, is required.
  • Proven expertise in cadaveric spine testing, including protocol development, experiment preparation, execution, and analysis, is required.
  • Experience with experimental test system function and design, including controllers, sensors, actuators, and data acquisition systems, is required.
  • Programming and data analysis experience with MATLAB, Python, and Excel is required.
  • Experience with test system programming and automation, such as LabVIEW or similar data acquisition and control software, is required.
  • Experience working with motion capture systems is required.
  • Experience operating servohydraulic test machines, such as Instron and MTS, is required.

Responsibilities
  • Support biomechanical evaluation of spinal implants and instrumentation for new product development and biomechanics research.
  • Plan and execute device testing according to recognized standards.
  • Design and execute mechanical and cadaveric studies to evaluate device performance and generate high-quality experimental data.
  • Interpret and communicate study results to cross-functional teams.
  • Lead the design and execution of cadaveric biomechanical studies.
  • Collaborate with research and development, marketing, regulatory, and sales teams to identify evidence gaps and align research studies with product and business objectives.
  • Conduct moderate-scope implant mechanical testing according to recognized standards and internal procedures.
  • Organize and analyze complex data sets.
  • Disseminate scientific findings through internal and external reports, conference abstracts, presentations, manuscripts, and product collateral.
  • Prepare clear, complete, and accurate technical engineering documentation.
  • Manage calibration, safety, maintenance, and efficient utilization of testing equipment.
  • Design and oversee fabrication of test fixtures for routine and custom testing requirements.
