About the role

We have a lot going for us at Hex: clear product-market fit, a stellar team, a strong balance sheet, and fast-growing customer base.

But there’s so much more to do! We are looking for a strategic, data-driven VP of Finance and Operations to join our leadership team as we build Hex into something really special.

The primary focus is up-leveling our ability to plan and execute, with an eye toward growth and efficiency. Where do we invest in growing our team? What should evolve in our GTM motion? How do we plan for the ups-and-downs on the road ahead?

As VP of Finance and Operations, you will lead us in answering these questions. You’ll report directly to the CEO, and interact closely with our board members and other functional Leads. From your position on our leadership team, you’ll lead key decisions for our business, and play a central role in scaling our company and impact.

What you’ll do

This is a senior leadership role with lots of scope, and it will certainly change over time. You’ll be expected to transact against a diverse, ever-evolving parade of opportunities and challenges, and demonstrate a flexible mindset as we scale.

For starters, you will definitely:

• Take on on a leadership role across planning and execution. You will bring a perspective on long-term goals, while making sure we hit the right short-term targets.
• You will work closely with other functional Leads on headcount plans, operational budgets, and measuring progress. You’ll partner particularly closely with our leaders in Sales, Customer, Marketing, and Ops, as we build an integrated, efficient GTM motion.
• Take point on investor reporting, equity management, fundraising execution, and planning board meetings.
• Oversee Finance broadly, ensuring that the right money is in the right place at the right time. We outsource our FP&A, accounting, and tax today, but expect you to build a team when the time is right.
• Manage our Ops teams, and make sure they and their teams are focused on the right problems, and set up for success.
• Also manage our Data team reporting to you, and work with them to better understand the business and inform decisions.
• Spend a lot of time with our amazing Talent team, focusing on headcount planning, compensation, benefits, and office budgeting.
• Become a trusted partner for the CEO, CTO, and board as we grow Hex into something really special.

About you

We’re a team of creative, slightly-weird individuals, and hope to see candidates with lots of different experiences. In this role, however, there are a few must-haves that will be critical to success:

• You have 10+ years of experience in strategic finance and operations. This could be stints in banking / VC / assurance – but your background will also include real, hands-on operating roles at scaling companies.
• You have been in a senior leadership role (C-/VP/Head of) with significant strategic and management responsibilities.
• You understand the ins-and-outs of B2B SaaS businesses, and have a perspective on how they are best measured and managed to scale.
• You have "seen great", and have strong opinions and hard-earned perspectives on what makes an enduring business.
• You have a track record of building and leading high-performing teams, and have left a trail of adoring direct reports in your wake.
• You’re data-driven, and think, speak, and dream in terms of measurable metrics. You have a deep appreciation for how data can impact an organization’s decision-making – but, also when to just go with your gut!
• You’re operationally-minded, and have a deep appreciation for how excellent execution in RevOps, BizOps, and PeopleOps can accelerate and support the business.
• You’re growth-minded, action-oriented, and a collaborative teammate who gives and receives feedback freely.
• Hex is remote-first and you can do this job from anywhere in US timezones. That said, our CEO, CTO, and major investors are all located in the SF Bay Area, so close proximity or ability to travel will be a plus. We’re also building up our NYC presence, and having a leader there would be a close second!
• You’re detail-oriented, and read things all the way to the end.
