- A Doctorate of Jurisprudence from an accredited college or university and at least four years of criminal-law experience representing indigent clients in misdemeanor, felony, and/or federal cases.
- A license to practice law in Texas and good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
- Experience taking court appointments in criminal-law matters.
- Practice of client-centered representation.
- Strong public-speaking and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and communicate effectively with diverse groups using tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to adjust to rapidly fluctuating situations and develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, co-workers, County employees, department heads, elected and appointed officials, outside organizations, attorneys, news media, and the public.
- Technological intuitiveness.
- Ability to secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance.
- Ability to clear a pre-employment physical.
- Ability to work more than 40 hours during the workweek when required.
- Ability to remain stationary and exchange accurate information through designated systems in a timely manner.
- Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
- Serve as a subject matter expert while operating with personal accountability.
- Support Bexar County managed assigned counsel panel attorneys.
- Assist panel attorneys as first- or second-chair counsel when feasible and when no conflict of interest exists.
- Monitor and manage intake assessments and the appropriate assignment of attorneys to cases.
- Review financial claims and monitor adherence to caseload guidelines.
- Provide support with pretrial matters, litigation, or trial issues when needed.
- Assist the Director, Trial Division Chief, and Director of Professional Development and Holistic Services with training, publications, and other duties as needed.
- Monitor and maintain legal resources made available through the Managed Assigned Counsel office, both physically and electronically, for court-appointed cases.
- Maintain County-issued equipment, software, data, and supplies.
