Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a human services field such as mental health, substance abuse, homelessness, or domestic violence.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with clients and team members.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends when needed.
  • An annual tuberculosis test is required.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
  • Ability to lift items weighing 10–20 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure the safe functioning of the shelter and maintain a safe environment for clients, including monitoring visitor check-in and front desk calls and inquiries.
  • Update the daily log by documenting client interactions and other significant shelter events.
  • Work closely with case managers to support and reinforce clients' service plans and maintain communication regarding client progress.
  • Complete shift exchanges with incoming and outgoing staff and report daily activities to maintain consistency.
  • Ensure shelter log documentation is complete and complies with agency best practices.
  • Evaluate and provide for clients' basic needs during the shift, including distributing household items, toiletries, and other supplies.
  • Maintain client dignity and confidentiality during service delivery.
  • Maintain current knowledge and ability to administer emergency procedures, including building evacuation, health emergencies, and safety management.
  • Conduct assessments and intakes for One-Night-Only families seeking shelter after hours.
  • Assist with the administration and security of medication delivery.
  • Accept donations and support volunteer programs and events in the shelter.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training as directed.
  • Ensure compliance with agency policies and best practices.
  • Use Microsoft applications, including email, calendar, drive, and documents, in day-to-day work.
  • Serve as emergency personnel and report to work as scheduled regardless of inclement weather, highway congestion, or other circumstances.
  • Safely use Shelter House vehicles to drive clients to various locations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in human services or a related field.
  • One year of customer service experience.
  • Experience working in programs serving homeless families.
  • Experience working in a residential environment.
  • Current CPR and first aid certification.
